About me and my therapy practice

A very warm welcome, I'm Helen Cunningham, a qualified person-centred counsellor and cognitive behavioural therapist. Working with adults, children and young people, I provide a therapeutic service dedicated to providing personalised support for when life gets tough for you; and I appreciate life can be very tough. Currently I support a wide range of clients with:

• the impact of family issues,

• bereavement and grief,

• breaking habits (alcohol/smoking),

• adjustment to long-term ill-health,

• adjustment to retirement,

• the impact of childhood trauma,

• living with autistic spectrum conditions,

• tackling anger management,

• tackling emotional management,

• the impact of relationship breakdowns,

• living with anxiety,

• living with depression,

• low self-esteem,

• gender identity and transition,

• body image/negative eating patterns,

• school/college/workplace stress.

My counselling service is based in the Lancashire town of Ramsbottom and you will find my personalised approach rooted in both Person-Centred and Cognitive Behavioural approaches . I believe that in a safe and non-judgemental counselling environment, you will learn to process emotional pain and any unhelpful thought patterns/behaviours that are keeping you stuck. I will help you grow towards a happier and healthier version of yourself. It is never too early nor too late.

As a graduate member of The British Psychological Society and also a registered member of The British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists, I want you to know that my work is underpinned by professional ethics and standards. Your best interests will always be my priority.

Practice description

Part of my personalised approach to therapy is that I can work in a number of ways with you:

Short-term (up to six sessions)

Medium-term (6-12 sessions)

Long-term (12 sessions or more)

I offer face to face, telephone and Zoom sessions (50 minutes); whichever way you wish to work, I can accommodate it.

Please contact me by telephone, text or email to arrange your free initial consultation.

My first session

The main priority for our very first session together is that you begin to feel comfortable and safe enough with me to share what has led you to counselling in the first place and, importantly, for you to begin exploring what you would like to achieve for yourself.  I want you to feel confident and equal in the counselling experience.
