About me and my therapy practice
My private practice is situated at my home in Little Bealings. I am a trained Integrative Child Counsellor, who uses the arts to enhance the therapeutic process. I also use a sand tray with figurines allowing the child to explore their world. My work focus is person-centered which really means that every child is an individual, who will bring their own needs, feelings and concerns to the therapeutic space. I work with the child relationally and build the client-therapist dyad. I am influenced by the work of Dan Hughes, whom I admire hugely. His ethos of Play, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy describe how I work with a child.
My first session
My first session is an introduction to the therapy space. The room is a place to play, explore, feel safe and accepted. I encourage the child to show me what interests them. This allows the child to feel listened to and the relationship to grow. There will be some non-directive work with more directive work introduced later when the child feels able.
