About me and my therapy practice

I work with those whose relationships either with family, partners or colleagues are in trouble, those with workplace issues, stress, anxiety, anger and burnout.

I also work with those who have experienced tragedy or trauma and who are really struggling to get through it. Nightmares, flashbacks, exhaustion can trouble you.

You may be feeling exhausted and ill, not able to sleep properly, your family are either ignored or get the worst of your temper; you may be drinking too much.

I can help work out what is causing the problem. Understanding this helps to figure out how to resolve the problem. I then can help you work out different ways of behaving/relating/managing so that you can get on with the rest of your life.

I am not trained as a relationship counsellor and do not work with couples.

I am an experienced and well qualified counsellor. I have previously worked in administration and project management and am a former intensive care nurse.

My Qualifications are:

  • BSc. (Hons) Degree in Psychology,
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Psychological Counselling
  • Diploma in Counselling Supervision.
  • PhD in Practical Theology.
  • I am a qualified nurse.

Practice description

As a British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) Registered Senior Accredited Counsellor and Supervisor, I am bound by their ethical framework.

I am a United Kingdom Register of Counsellors (UKRC) Registered Independent Counsellor

I am a member of the British Psychological Society.

I am fully insured, committed to ongoing personal training and am in regular supervision.

I am also DBS checked.

Besides the issues people often seek help from a counsellor with, I have special interest in clients recovering from long term illnesses including CFS/ME/IBS and those who have been a patient in an intensive or critical care unit. I also specialise in bereavement, loss and trauma issues.I work in a flexible, mainly person centred way incorporating a variety of counselling approaches best suited to each client and the issues brought.

My aim is to facilitate clients through difficult issues as quickly as is appropriate, by mutual agreement regarding number of sessions.I am not in my office at weekends and will respond to emails as soon as possible on my return.

In normal times I work face to face. During 'lock-down', I am using video calling. You will need to have a private space where you feel safe and access to either Skype, WhatsApp, Duo or Zoom to make this work.

About me and my therapy practice

Counselling Supervision

I have offered supervision to colleagues and students since 2002. I am also engaged by organisations who need a supervisor for their counsellors or staff.

I am a BACP Snr. Accredited supervisor.  I am proactive as a supervisor and as well as monitoring issues relating to the BACP Ethical Framework, I am supportive, as challenging as you want me to be and engage with my supervision clients on their level, developing a professional, mutually beneficial relationship. I have a diploma in Counselling Supervision.

Pastoral Supervision

Pastoral supervision is offered to those working in demanding pastoral situations such as teachers, church leaders and other helping professions, those who often work alone and who would benefit from an independent, boundaried, confidential space to reflect, discuss and perhaps regain perspective. I am a member of the Association of Pastoral Supervisors and Educators (www.pastoralsupervision.org.uk)

Please contact me if you are interested, to arrange an informal, no obligation meeting.
