About me and my therapy practice
Having experienced the benefits of counselling myself and realising that I could live a much happier life, led to me training as a person centred counsellor. I will not judge you or give you my opinion, but will offer you a safe confidential space to openly talk about anything that is causing you worry, anxiety, distress or even just keeping you awake at night. The session time will be yours to explore your feelings and together we can work to understand where they are coming from and how to move forward.
Every counsellor is different and I believe that with the right therapeutic relationship, most people will ultimately live a much happier life.
I offer an initial session for us to meet and I will explain how I work and you can ask questions and tell me a little about why you are seeking some counselling. We will see if we feel comfortable to work together, as the client/counsellor relationship is the basis for healing.
I originally trained and qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse, working in clinical practice and then trained and transferred to teach Veterinary Nurses in a local college for 23 years. Working with young people that were struggling with juggling stressful work and college made me realise that everyone sometimes has troubles that interfere with their lives.
In addition to my private practice, I also work in a young persons centre, offering 1:1 sessions to those who are experiencing emotional and/or behavioural issues. At the same centre I volunteer with groups of Autistic young people, giving them the opportunity to improve their social skills and develop friendships.
In addition to my counsellor training I have completed training in the following:
Childhood Bereavement Grief & Loss
Rape & Sexual Abuse
Alcohol & Drug Awareness
I am a person centred counsellor and offer general counselling and support to all adults 18+.
As a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Registered Veterinary Nurse, I am able to offer Pet Bereavement Therapy to owners. As both Vet Nurse and counsellor I can understand owners anxiety leading up to anaesthesia and surgery or with terminal illnesses and knowing when it s the right time to say goodbye. Other people in you live may not understand the feelings you have for your pet. Bereavement sessions will allow you to express your grief in a safe environment and I can offer empathic understanding and support you for as long as you want.
I am available to offer support to Veterinary Professionals experiencing work related stress.
As a trained teacher I am available to provide sessions for students who are suffering from stress, anxiety or exam nerves.
I can offer 'Well-being & resilience' workshops for groups at your location and have provided these sessions for local colleges students and staff.
My first session
The first session is for an hour and will allow us to discuss the way I work in detail. More importantly it will allow us to see how we feel with each other and whether it feels comfortable. The relationship between counsellor and client is the most important element to you working through your feelings and living a happier life. Many people have had bad experiences with previous counsellors, so don't let this 'put you off'. All counsellors are different and there are many different types of therapy.
You are welcome to come along for a first session and go home and think about it. The decision to work together needs to be mutual and if you want to book further sessions or not, is up to you.
This initial session is at a reduced price of £30.
