About me and my therapy practice

I am a fully qualified person-centred integrative therapist, and a registered member of the BACP. I work with warmth, compassion, and integrity, building a confidential empathic relationship, which is key to bring therapeutic change. Through the therapeutic relationship, clients are empowered to express their feelings and bring clarity to their experiences. Counselling offers you the opportunity to talk through issues in a supportive, confidential and safe space, where you can identify, explore and understand what doesn’t feel right within. Although this can sometimes feel challenging, it can also be inspiring and creative, exploring concerns, worries and experiences.

l am passionate about supporting people to deal with a wide variety of emotional difficulties, including low self-esteem, self-harm, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, relationship problems, loss and bereavement, trauma, bullying, anger management, stress and past experiences which affect the present.

I have worked with young people in education for over 25 years and I hold a current enhanced disclosure (DBS). I have also recently completed an additional Diploma in Child and Adolescent Counselling, to enhance my experience of working with children and young people. I work creatively with children and young people to assist them in exploring their thoughts and feelings, building confidence in communicating and empowering their sense of self.

I attend regular supervision to gain specialist mentoring in line with BACP guidelines. This enhances the quality of the service I offer, and ensures my work meets professional standards, advances my learning, stimulates creativity, and supports me to maintain resilience and fitness to practice.

A recent client stated:

"I wish I had done this years ago. It has had a huge and positive impact on my working life and I am profoundly grateful that I was able to work with someone with such incisive expertise." KT

Practice description

I work Relationally integrating Person-Centred Therapy with other approaches including CBT, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, and Compassion focused therapy. I am responsive to each unique individual, adjusting my therapeutic approach, using theories and resources to best meet each person’s needs.

My aim when working with clients is to offer a confidential, safe and supportive space where together we can begin to make sense of your difficulties and help you to understand yourself better. The counselling process is determined by you. Within the therapeutic relationship you will feel heard, deeply understood and accepted, which can help you explore your feelings more openly and enable you to think about yourself in ways that you have not been able to consider before as well as develop skills for coping with emotional difficulties.

As an integrative therapist, I am responsive to each unique individual, adjusting my therapeutic approach, using theories and resources to best meet each person’s needs. I will help you identify a ‘therapeutic aim’ to work towards which will help give focus to the counselling sessions. We will work together towards achieving your aim which may include understanding where unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours come from; identifying alternative ways of thinking; developing new coping strategies; and considering different perspectives.

I am a fully insured and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and therefore I work towards and abide by their Ethical Frameworks and professional standards.

I work with Adults, Couples and Young People.

Recent clients have stated:

"My frame of mind and reaction to many different things has changed and grown. I feel content and at ease with my life and situation." DH

My first session

The first session usually takes around an hour, as it will involve us working together to explore what is troubling you, along with your life experience. Together we will identify a ‘therapeutic aim’ to work towards which will help give focus to your path through counselling.

Please contact me by email or text to express an interest in an initial conversation. Following an initial free phone call, we can discuss the best way forward.
