About me and my therapy practice
It can take courage to seek professional support. Many of us find it difficult to ask for help - perhaps we feel we shouldn't need to or that what is troubling will seem shameful or silly.
Sharing with people who are close to us can be awkward - we edit details to avoid hurting our friends or family, we wonder how much to share if at all - and so those same thoughts and worries go round and round in our heads, unresolved.
Allowing yourself a safe and confidential space to discuss things with a non-judgemental "professional stranger" without the need to edit what you feel, can be enormously beneficial, enlightening, freeing and empowering. It can lead to positive change as I have witnessed many times.
There are many reasons for seeking therapy. It may be a specific life event - recent or not. Perhaps an accumulation of things has become overwhelming. Or perhaps you don't quite know why or what it is, only that you need to take time for yourself, some dedicated space to explore what's going on for you.
The next step is where you are now - looking at a sea of profiles wondering how to choose who will be right for you. Thanks for taking the time to read mine. I hope it will be helpful.
The most essential element of successful therapy is the relationship between client and therapist. The ability to develop trust and feel safe with your therapist is key to being able to fully engage and benefit from your sessions.
The therapy I offer is not directive or prescriptive, in other words I don't already have all the answers. And the aim is not to "fix you" but to work towards healing of the issues that are impacting your life and we explore this together. I will listen with an objective, empathic, non-judgemental, professional ear to what you choose to share, at a pace that feels right for you. Metaphorically you are in the driving seat so you control the direction, the speed and when to apply the brakes. I am in the passenger seat, right beside you, noting our journey in great detail and intervening as navigator when a change of speed or a detour seems advisable.
How many sessions? This is open ended and depends on each individual - again this is a decision to be made together as the work progresses.
At present all sessions are online via skype or zoom. Before and beyond COVID19 I also offer face to face sessions in rooms from The Park, Nottingham NG7 1AY with free parking or via regular buses with about 5 mins walk from the bus stop on Derby Road.
Appointments from Mondays to Thursdays between 1pm - 8pm
During the pandemic I am happy to offer a reduced fee to frontline workers.
