I am a BACP Senior Accredited counsellor and member of EMDR UK & Ireland, I have been in practice over 25 years.

I offer face to face and video call counselling and EMDR for individuals, both on a short or longer term basis. Blocks of EMDR sessions can also be agreed.

There are many causes of low mood, anxiety and stress, however, if you are impacted by past or present experiences and need to share what is going on for you, contacting a counsellor may be a way forward - a step toward making a difference. Counselling can help you to understand what contributes to anxiety and stress and promote psychologically healthier patterns of living.

My hours of working are Monday daytime and Tuesday afternoon and evening

My practice is set in a rural village location and public transport is limited.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or would like to book an appointment.

About me and my therapy practice

Me and my practice

Counselling can offer an opportunity to make sense of the complex emotions impacting on your day to day life. It can enable you to share past and present experiences that others struggle to hear or don’t realise are still worrying you. It can help you to understand yourself better and find self acceptance.

My philosophy is based around the belief that our development as children, in particular our early relationships help shape us as adults. It is through these early relationships that we form our beliefs and attitudes about ourselves and others. Often, through counselling, we discover these beliefs to be false. Learning to challenge our thoughts can have a positive impact on our feelings and our behaviours.

I integrate EMDR within my practice, EMDR is an acronym for “Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing.”

EMDR is a specialised approach working simultaneously on mind, body and emotions. I have training and experience in Attachment Focused EMDR an approach to working therapeutically with early losses, relational and developmental trauma.

This has particular focus on healing attachment trauma and relational wounds based in early childhood, it is a creative and relational approach. The impact of childhood traumas is often long lasting and can continue to influence adult relationships, resulting in anxiety, low self esteem, low mood and cause distress that others may fail to acknowledge.

Practice description

Counselling can help you to take stock of your life and as it is now and look at your relationship with yourself and others. It can help you to review the experiences that have impacted on you and make sense of your feelings, which may be varied and conflicting.

EMDR is a psychological treatment method developed by Dr Francine Shapiro. It integrates a range of existing psychological therapies within a comprehensive framework to effect therapeutic change. It is a comprehensive therapeutic approach with principles, protocols procedures and the goal of reducing emotional distress that result from disturbing life experiences.

In the process the distressing memories and beliefs seem to lose their intensity, so they are less upsetting and more like ‘ordinary memories’. The effect is believed to be similar to that which occurs naturally during REM sleep.

Although the reasons why EMDR is effective are still evolving, the process of recalling events whilst using the naturally occurring process of rapid eye movement is key to its success.

It is difficult to say exactly how many sessions of counselling you may find beneficial to you; however, many people find that short term counselling (approximately 10- 15 sessions) gives time to focus on what may be going on for you.

You may also be aware that the issue bothering you has been around for some time and potentially presented itself in different situations over a period of several years, sometimes since childhood. In this instance you may realise that longer term work is beneficial and would give more time explore some of the experiences you have had.

I will talk this through with you when we meet.

Whatever option you choose, making a commitment to attending sessions regularly over a period of time is important:
