About me and my therapy practice
I am a Person-Centred Psychotherapist & Counsellor.
Whatever the issues that you choose to bring to counselling, my approach is not to medicalise your issues but to provide a non-judgemental, safe and confidential space whereby you can feel supported to work through whatever matters to you. I offer to support clients to gain a greater understanding of their concerns which can help in developing a deeper self-awareness and promote our own solutions to problems. Emotional pain hits us all, so if something doesn’t feel right then it’s ok to seek help.
Prior to my training as a psychotherapist, I worked for over twenty years for the NHS working as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner within primary care and a Community Mental Health Nurse. During this time, I completed Interpersonal Psychotherapy IAPT training in 2010 and an Advanced Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Skills & Studies in 2008.
My previous career within the NHS mental health services has motivated me to make counselling more accessible to clients who have a psychiatric diagnosis and who want to explore their experiences outside the remit of a medical model. Some clients find diagnosis helpful as a means to validate and understand their distress while others may feel this is misaligned with to their experience; I support clients to find out what works for them to enable them to foster personal potential and autonomy over their lives.
I am currently offering Zoom and phone counselling. Once it is safe to do so I shall resume face to face counselling but also continue to offer online and telephone sessions if this is preferred.
I offer an initial 20 minute zoom or phone appointment free of charge, where we can discuss your needs and my counselling approach. This can be helpful to establish whether I am the right person for you to work with as it’s important that whoever you choose you can relate to your counsellor to explore whatever you need to.
The number of sessions can vary and is dependent on your needs. I work with clients on a short and long-term basis.
