About me and my therapy practice

Are you feeling overwhelmed? Are you working more hours than you need to? Is it difficult to start the workday? Are you in a relationship that isn’t working? Have you lost a loved one?

Life is challenging. Sometimes even the pleasant things we celebrate can cause us to feel swamped and full of mixed feelings we would rather avoid. It's sometimes hard to talk to anyone about them. Even harder to talk to a stranger.

I know it’s sometimes hard to find the right words to express what’s going on. Even harder to talk to a stranger like me. Keeping painful feelings inside might work for a while, but eventually, they take their toll on our wellbeing and chances of happiness. Having someone to listen, without fear of judgement can help reduce the confusion and can start you on the road to making positive changes in your life.

I provide a welcoming calm space (be it in person or via video/telephone) where you can talk through whatever is on your mind. Together, we can make sense of what's going on for you and work towards your goals. I commit to working with compassion, at your pace, whilst helping you to look at the more difficult areas of your life.

Working together, I can help you recover perspective, and discover the balance that you are seeking in your life.

Practice description

I am working both face-to-face and online or via telephone. Therefore, I can be flexible to suit your needs.

I work near central Reading, a short walk from Reading station.

All sessions are charged at £60

My first session

After an initial call to discuss your needs, we will book our first session together.

In this session I will ask many questions so I can better understand how to help. Questions such as;

  1. What has brought you to counselling?
  2. Your personal history and current situation.
  3. I will ask about your family situation so I can get a better sense of you and your roles in your surrounding relationships.
  4. How is your issue affecting your life now, and in the past?

Have a think about this beforehand if you can, but if not, that's OK. We can work through this together. This is a 2-way relationship, so I want you to ask questions too. It might feel daunting, but all your thoughts and feelings are relevant to our sessions together, so try to be as open as you can.

Towards the end of the session I'll summarise what you've told me and ask you how you are feeling. I may ask what you will do after this session. It's important you look after yourself and take some time to process how you feel.

Before we decide on future sessions, I will ask you to consider the following;

  1. Am I comfortable with this counsellor?
  2. Is this someone I could come to trust?

This is crucial to our work together. I want the best for you, and if that's seeing a different counsellor, that is the right thing to do.

Please let me know if you want more information on what happens in our first session. I am more than happy to talk this through on the phone.
