About me and my therapy practice
Hello,I am a fully qualified person centred therapist and offer safe, non-judgemental, confidential therapy for you to explore your concerns and issues.‘Be a lamp, or a lifeboat, or a ladder. Help someone's soul heal. Walk out of your house like a shepherd’ (Rumi). For me as a therapist, this sums up counselling in one short sentence, which is helping and facilitating the healing process.
Before becoming a counsellor, I worked with victims of domestic violence for over seventeen years. This involved working with issues such as grief and loss, violence, abuse, discrimination, poverty, health concerns, anxiety, depression, addiction, cultural and religious issues, racism, issues about parenting, relationship difficulties, childhood problems and attempted suicide. These are also some of the issues I have helped clients with through counselling.
Practice description
I am fully qualified, (MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy) BACP registered and have a current DBS.
I work mainly as a Person-Centred counsellor and therapist, which means I work in a way which acknowledges that you are the expert on yourself, and know yourself better than I do. I believe it is important that the client feels listened to within the process of therapy.
Having a non-judgemental and supportive manner is essential in the work I do with people. I feel this allows people to be more comfortable within the process of therapy and allows them to explore the issues that are important to them.
I am also able to work in an integrative way which includes using CBT skills and also Mindfulness.
My first session
I usually offer a free 15 minute initial consultation to get a sense of what you want from therapy and whether you are happy to continue for us to work together. It will usually be at this point that I will take the opportunity to give you some information about the process of therapy, and discuss practical things such as confidentiality and appointment times.
