About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Mark, and I imagine that if you are reading this page you are dealing with some difficult issues. The good news is counselling/psychotherapy can help.
Receiving counselling/psychotherapy many years ago transformed my life and set me off an a fantastic journey of healing and self-discovery. It can be the same for you too.
Finding the right counsellor/psychotherapist be confusing and daunting, but the bottom line is this… the key to successful counselling is the relationship between the client and the counsellor.
I worked for many years as an IT Project Manager until personal tragedy and trauma caused me to re-evaluate my life. I sought out personal therapy and the experience changed me. I turned my back on a successful but deeply unfulfilling career to become a Counsellor/Psychotherapist, and I am now passionately dedicated to providing the same help that I received to others.
In addition to my private practice, I work as a referral therapist for Mind (Hull and East Yorkshire). I am also proud to work on a voluntary basis with York St John University’s Clinic, providing counselling to individuals on low income.
My varied life experiences, positive and negative, provide real benefit to me as a therapist. I have in the past experienced hardship, despair and many of the issues that my clients deal with. This enables me to bring real empathy and understanding to therapy.
My approach to therapy is to collaboratively work with each client to build a unique way of working, using a real human relationship. I draw from a variety of therapeutic models (see below) and adapt the therapy to make use of these models as and when required based on the clients’ needs.
As a therapist I find that I am able to build strong relationships with my clients and this enables me to help them to affect real change in their lives.
I have extensive experience on working remotely via Video (Zoom and Skype) and telephone, and am happy to offer whichever medium is preferred.
My first session
I offer a 20-minute introductory session during which my client and I may decide if we wish to work together. This session may be via Zoom or telephone, and is non-chargeable.
My fees are £50 for a 60-minute session. As I’m working from home via Zoom or telephone due to Covid-19 restrictions, I am currently sharing the saving from hiring a room with my clients. The cost is therefore £40 per 60-minute session whilst this remote working continues.
