About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Suzanne, a fully registered and insured integrative therapeutic counsellor working with young people (15-17 years), and individual adults, for shorter or longer term therapy. I understand that life can bring with it different challenges, both from the past and in the present. I deeply believe that by working together, in relationship, we can explore and make sense of your life choices, challenges and patterns of behaviour. When we understand and accept ourselves, we can make change.
Our work is collaborative led by you, my client.
I aim to develop a safe, comfortable and warm relationship, focussing on your unique story, without prejudice or judgement. You will be treated with respect and equality at all times, and truly heard.
As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychothepary (BACP), I adhere to their code of ethics, which supports professional practice and ethical working.
An integrative approach means that I can draw on many different therapeutic models according to the needs of each individual client and the goals for the work that we agree on, together. I aim to develop a strong bond so that my client feels I am 'walking alongside' him or her, as they explore various areas of their lives. I particularly focus on the following approaches:
Psychodymanic - which helps link past interactions and experiences with current ways of relating and life choices.
Person centred - a humanistic approach which ensures clients, and their opinions and beliefs about themselves, is central to the work. This approach supports and respects that every person has an inbuilt drive to reach their full potential, given the right conditions.
I use Attachment Theory, focusing on historic and current attachment styles, and I also use elements of other theories, such as Transactional Analysis, Transpersonal and Gestalt.
My first session
I offer a 20 minute initial chat, either online (via Zoom) or face to face for which there is a nominal £15 charge. The introductory session will give us the opportunity to meet, get to know each other a little and decide if we would like to work together.
