About me and my therapy practice
The Grieving Space is a counselling practice dedicated to supporting bereaved people in Bristol. I am Kate Reaney, a qualified counsellor, group facilitator and trainer, based on Cheltenham Road.
If you’ve found me, you may have experienced a loss, recently or some time ago. You may have suffered multiple losses. There may be other things going on, with which you are struggling.
Everybody’s grief is different. I’m here to support you in bearing, understanding and working through yours.
I am a qualified counsellor and registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), trained to work with both individuals and groups. I am especially committed to supporting bereaved people. You might say that it is my calling.
I believe that non-judgemental, unhurried therapeutic support and space can go some way to relieve the pain (and sometimes loneliness) of a bereavement, and help a bereaved person work through their loss, to grieve, and to heal.
I see my job as that of being there to bear your loss with you, listening and supporting you as you work out how you need to grieve. There is no loss too traumatic, and no feelings too complex, painful or confusing for my counselling room.
As an integrative counsellor I work together with each client to shape the counselling to suit the individual needs of each unique person and each unique experience of loss. I draw on ideas and techniques from a range of counselling approaches, including person-centered, gestalt, CBT, existential and mindfulness based approaches.
The foundation of my approach, though, is humanistic and relational. I work to develop a trusting and supportive relationship with each client. I work collaboratively and flexibly, with a down-to-earth and open style.
