About me and my therapy practice

I believe that for any therapy to be effective, the relationship between the Therapist and client is vitally important. That's a big part of my job, to establish a strong relationship of trust with clients where clients don't feel the need to edit themselves. I have a warm, open, inclusive approach, and I invite and encourage genuineness in our relationship. I explore your readiness for therapy and your motivation for change at the outset, which allows us to plan our work together.

Practice description

I am an accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist. I have built my experience by working across a variety of settings. including providing counselling for clients experiencing a range of common mental health issues via GP referrals and working with survivors of rape and historical sexual abuse. I have a strong background of working in occupational health settings providing counselling and therapy to employees  experiencing both work related and personal issues. I was previously employed by Merseyside Police in their Occupational Health Unit, providing therapy for police officers and police staff. 

I have a special interest in trauma, anxiety and stressor related disorders, which led me to complete a MSc in working with psychological trauma. I am a trained Critical Incident Debriefer (CISM) and a trained TRiM Assessor.

In addition to individual sessions, I develop and facilitate group sessions, including anxiety and bereavement groups and emotional coping and stabilisation groups for those struggling after traumatic exposure.  

My first session

Our first session is an opportunity for us to be introduced to each other and to begin to build a strong rapport. This is assisted by a detailed assessment when I will ask you about details of your current difficulties, your background, family and upbringing, education and work history. We will also think about any support you have in place and any strengths and coping strategies you have developed. An early assessment is important as it helps us to think about what you would like to get out of our work together and this helps to develop specific goals/aims to help us to focus our work together.
