About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Emma.
I want to acknowledge this important step and any apprehension you may have in this moment. As a qualified counsellor, I have the training and experience to listen with empathy; both attentively and effectively. I can sit with you in your discomfort and all that may feel unknown and uncertain. I offer you an often much-needed, ‘sounding board’ and a safe place for you free of judgment or expectation.
Our therapeutic relationship will help to inform and support our time together; allowing you to safely and gently look at conflicting and challenging parts of your life. I welcome you initially, to a free, no-obligation fifteen minute’s consultation to discuss any questions and to get a sense of how we may work together.
Through my style of working, my hope is that you will experience a depth of understanding from me as I sit alongside you. As you tell me your story, we will identify important life themes, recurrent and repetitive cycles and behavioural patterns. We can nurture your deepening self-awareness offering you an empowered sense of identity.
Training, qualifications & experience:
My training is seated within the Humanistic approach to counselling. This recognises the importance of an individual’s potential and their ability to experience growth. Within this, I am trained in and guided by Transactional Analysis. TA may enable a more structured way of working and can be very useful to the client when understanding their own relationship rhythms and historic, sometimes outdated, behaviours.
I am guided by the strength and potential of the relationship between therapist and client. By working honestly and openly together, it is possible to achieve longed for change and soothe everyday tensions and worries. I have counselled clients experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, bereavement and loss, relationship conflict, domestic abuse and low self esteem.
I run my own private practice from a convenient location in the South-East where I keep office hours for face-to-face work. I offer and I am experienced in Zoom/Skype and phone therapy. This can suit people by providing a flexible and effective alternative, particularly during the current unpredictable COVID times.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapist (BACP) and adhere to their ethical framework. The framework may be accessed at www.bacp.co.uk.
I undergo regular clinical supervision and I hold full Professional Liability insurance with Towergate Insurance and a current, enhanced DBS certificate.
FdA Degree in Humanistic Counselling with Transactional Analysis - Distinction.
BA/BSC (Hons) Health and Social Science.
Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills.
Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills.
Transactional Analysis 101
My first session
Our first session will be based on getting to know one another. After our free phone consultation, I will have a clearer sense of why you have contacted me and what your needs are. In our first session, we will go a little further by working together on your assessment which helps me gain a deeper understanding of who you are.
We will look at your history and any important events which may have shaped who you are and how you may feel. We may agree on what it is you would like to look at; whether that is something quite focussed and specific or broader; taking in important life moments or uncomfortable patterns of behaviour.
