About me and my therapy practice
Are you struggling with stress, anxiety or feeling panicked? What do you need to help you feel better? Someone impartial and non-judgmental to talk to? To listen to you with empathy, perhaps to help you make sense of your own emotions, thoughts, decisions and reactions? Maybe you'd like to consider your life holistically, feel able to resolve problems, build resilience, and set and achieve goals for yourself?
I have 20 years experience of helping people with emotional difficulties and unhelpful patterns of behaviour. As a BACP accredited, registered counsellor and Fusion certified therapeutic life coach, I can offer you a safe, confidential space to talk where together we can make sense of what is going on for you. I can also help you understand how the mind works, and how to use your ‘whole mind’ to deal with overwhelming emotions, which so often prevent us from coping well with stressful events, including traumatic experiences. You will be shown how to relax and reduce anxiety quickly and regain a sense of calm control.
Once you are feeling emotionally well enough, or if you already are, I can work with you in a coaching capacity to help you decide what you really want out of life, to plan and take action to get there, while feeling supported and encouraged within a professional, therapeutic relationship.

My practice is in the centre of Meltham, near Holmfirth and Huddersfield. I work from an informal, cosy room within a business centre containing a few small businesses, inside a grand old Victorian building originally built to house the local Mechanics' Institute. There is a large free car park at the back of the building, and a buzzer entry system in the porch area for security.
My first session
At your first session you'll have the opportunity to ask any questions and talk about any concerns you might have about the process you are embarking upon. We will take about an hour to identify which areas of life you may be experiencing difficulties with and agree on the focus of our work together. It can be a daunting experience to come for counselling for the first time, so it's important that you have the time and space to say what you want to say, and feel that you're being listened to and understood.
If you decide you'd like to continue to work with me, we will agree a number of sessions (50mins-1 hour) on days and times to suit you, and to regularly review how things are going for you. We'll discuss your confidentiality and privacy, what happens if one of us needs to cancel for any reason, and how payments can be processed.
