About me and my therapy practice
If you're struggling with life, in whatever way, then talking to a trained therapist can often help. Whether you're just feeling a bit down and you don't know why, or you're facing problems that just seem too big - at work, at home or with loved ones, or you've just lost your way and can't seem to get back on the right track, then I might be able to help. Counselling can be a life-changing experience, and that's what I aim for with all my clients. You many already know a lot about counselling, you may have seen counselling taking place on the television, you may have read books about it, or you may know nothing at all. If you're curious about what counselling is and how it works, then please read on. The professional body of which I am a registered member, the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) says that:
Therapy provides a safe and confidential space for you to talk to a trained professional about your issues and concerns. Your therapist will help you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours so you can develop a better understanding of yourself and of others.
And that is a perfect description of what I do, as a Person-Centred counsellor, I leave it up to you to choose the direction of the therapy, I won't offer you my opinions or make suggestions as to what you should do, but I will help you find your own solutions to issues you're facing. I'm not a doctor so I won't prescribe medication, nor will I give you a 'diagnosis'. The BACP website contains lots of really useful information about what counselling is, and what it isn't, and what to expect. Have a look at their 'What is Counselling' page, you might find helpful.
