About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced, warm and sensitive counsellor and EMDR practitioner with professional accreditation in both areas of work.

I have worked as a counsellor since 2001. I approach counselling as a mutual journey. We would work together in unravelling the way problems and difficulties stop people from living their lives to their full potential, and to build on your own resources.

I offer counselling for people to provide support and help in managing and overcoming difficulties. Past events can be explored to help a person understand their responses. With the help of a counsellor people can find ways to understand their difficulties and explore ways to manage and lessen the distress.

Sometimes EMDR can be used to support a person’s strengths and resources and desensitise difficult life events so that a person can move forward. I use counselling and/or EMDR to help people overcome the difficulties

The passion for my work is embedded in a warm empathic connection with the people I am working with, in being able to bring understanding and connect with how clients’ difficulties affect their lives. I find it very satisfying to support people in resolving problems, even when they are complex and deep seated and to see the transformation that people go through in moving from difficulties to resolution.

I am interested in people’s uniqueness and, at the same time, the humanity that we all share in wanting ourselves and the people we care about to feel OK and free of suffering.

In my current work I see adults, couples, children and young people for counselling and EMDR. I also support families through consultation with parents or see members of families together. I have worked in a secondary school as a counsellor for young people and as a counselling trainer for a national mental health organisation.  I'm a fully accredited EMDR practitioner for adults, children and young people and DBS checked.

Practice description

As some issues can't be fully worked through using counselling and talking therapies alone, sometimes problems and difficulties are better managed and overcome using EMDR. This can be used firstly to support a person’s strengths and resources, and then to desensitise difficult life events so that a person can move forward.

EMDR sits within the framework of the counselling session and has been shown to be the most effective and successful treatment for traumatic memories, difficult life events and their effects such as anxiety. In particular, EMDR has been shown to be one of the most effective successful treatment for traumatic memories and their effects. It has been widely researched and validated and is recognised by NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) as the treatment of choice for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) as well as showing positive results in treating anxiety, OCD, depression and many other conditions.

EMDR changes how people feel about their traumatic memories. It reduces the intensity of disturbing thoughts associated with difficult life events. EMDR appears to directly stimulate the brain's ability to digest past traumatic events and works effectively and quickly to heal the wounds that are left on the emotional brain. It helps people to develop more positive emotions, thoughts and behaviour and to feel that the memory is no longer disturbing
