About me and my therapy practice

Are you wanting to experience some change in your life? Perhaps relating to anxiety, past trauma, difficulties in relating to others or in finding it difficult to see the point in anything? Whatever difficulty you are facing, I offer a safe, supportive, consistent and confidential relationship that is there in service of your self-understanding and growth. I will accept you as are you in this moment, in all your troubles and uncertainties, whilst holding on to the belief that change is possible for you.

I have worked in a variety of different organisations, ranging from education centres, local and national charities and the NHS. My role is to provide a relationship that gives the space for you to voice your difficulties at your own pace. In this relationship you can experience a deep relational connection that supports and makes bearable those experiences that are so hard to hold on your own. By facing up to your experiences in this relationship, the path is opened for you to make sense of the way you are living. In feeling more secure in your own sense of self, the capacity grows for enlivened relationships and a new outlook on the world.

My approach is influenced by humanistic principles and existential philosophy and maintains that everyone has the capacity to move toward growth and change once the obstacles are identified. I will not come into the sessions and take control of your life and tell you what to do, but rather get into the struggle with you to help develop your autonomy and self-support. I am interested in how your own personal history has come to shape how you see yourself and others now, and explore both the past and present as the holism of your life experience. What is most important is for you to experience a relationship of acceptance, where you can make sense of your difficulties and speak with an openness without fear of judgement or rejection.

Practice description

I am a part of the Crescent Practice in Brighton, located on Montpelier Crescent. This is just off of Seven Dials and a short walk from Brighton train station. 

I am able to offer both in-person and online sessions. 

Open-ended and short-term options are available and this can be discussed during a free initial session to see what would work best for you. 

Please note that I do not to offer fortnightly counselling sessions. 

My first session

I offer a free first session, with no obligation to continue, in order to see if we are a good fit for ongoing counselling. It is a chance to get to know each other and see what emerges between us.

In this session we will go over a 'working agreement' that sets up the container within with we will work together. We will also talk about any previous experiences of counselling you have had, what was helpful and what was not, and discuss any expectations, hopes and fears about counselling that you have. 

This will usually take around 20-25 minutes and then I suggest that we then trial working together for the remainder of the time so that you can actually experience what counselling with me would be like. 

At the end of the first session we agree a time within which to let me know if you would like to continue or not.
