About me and my therapy practice
Does your life situation at present cause many different emotions, creating tension, stress, anxiety and confusion? Like many strands entangled together. This experience can be difficult, lonely and often an isolating place when no one understands your thoughts and feelings and you are not sure who or where to turn to next. You don't have to manage by yourself, taking the first step of reaching out for help can take a great amount of courage but by doing so, you possibly have everything to gain. As the famous quote by Lao Tzu goes ' A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step'.
I am a qualified Person-Centred counsellor, having also trained in bereavement counselling. I have experience in working with adults and children with the difficult emotions experienced in grief and loss. Whatever you are facing or trying to cope with there is support. I offer a safe environment where you can explore what you feel is creating stress and holding you back, from being that person you desire to be.
The way in which I work is by offering you empathy and a genuine and non-judgemental attitude. The counselling relationship is one of establishing trust so you can be yourself and learn to trust your own experience. This opportunity may lead you to a greater perspective in your life and clarity in understanding your thoughts and feelings. Bringing about a change that you may seek, or to a more positive acceptance within yourself.
Feel free to contact me to discuss your needs further.
Practice description
As a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor I work in Private Practice within a Therapy Centre, offering you space to talk through any concerns & issues you may be struggling with. Our initial meeting will discuss ways in which you would like to be supported through counselling, as well as an opportunity to meet each other and see if you feel that I am the right counsellor to work with you. This is an important stage as you consider beginning counselling as each counsellor brings their own personality & training expertise into the counselling relationship. Often the question is asked how long do I need counselling for? Again this is something that can be discussed together and depends on each person's needs. Initially I would recommend weekly meetings and then reviewing this. I am able to see clients throughout the day and some evenings also. Please ask when booking if you prefer to have access to a room without stairs.
My first session
The first session gives you an opportunity to meet the counsellor and talk through what you would like from counselling, seeing if the counsellor you are meeting feels that they can support you with what you need. This is also true from the counsellor's perspective too. You may wish to see several counsellors before you decide which one you want to work with.
At the first session if you decide to continue with further sessions then I would give an assessment sheet with some of your details required along with a client/therapist contract and data protection information. We would discuss confidentiality and how we would work together.
