About me and my therapy practice

I believe in creating a warm and supportive therapeutic space where you feel comfortable and valued. My integrative approach allows me to tailor my support to your unique needs, drawing upon a variety of therapeutic modalities. Person-centred therapy forms the foundation of my practice, emphasizing your self-awareness and agency in the therapeutic process.

I have experience working with a wide range of presenting concerns, including loss and grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, and issues related to identity and gender. I may incorporate visual aids such as stones, shells, crystals, and drawings to enhance your therapeutic experience.

With nearly 30 years of experience working with children, young people, and adults, I possess a deep understanding of diverse developmental needs. My career has primarily focused on supporting vulnerable and at-risk individuals, particularly within secondary school settings. As a lead safeguarding officer for many years, I have witnessed first-hand the profound impact of trauma on young lives. This deeply personal experience fuels my passion for empowering young people to overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

Practice description

How I work:

At the heart of my practice lies the belief that you are the expert on your own life. I strive to create a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space where you feel comfortable exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. My approach is integrative, drawing from various therapeutic modalities, including:

Person-centred therapy: This core approach emphasizes your inherent capacity for growth and self-direction. I will actively listen to your unique needs and goals, offering unconditional positive regard and empathy as you navigate your therapeutic journey.

I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy, where we work together to understand your challenges and develop strategies for personal growth. I will offer gentle challenges and support you in exploring new perspectives, while always respecting your pace and autonomy.

To enhance your self-reflection and understanding, I may incorporate creative and experiential techniques into our sessions. These may include:

Visual aids: Utilizing objects such as stones, shells, or figures to symbolize your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

Creative expression: Engaging in drawing, writing, or other forms of creative expression to explore your inner world.

Mindfulness and relaxation techniques: Guiding you through mindfulness exercises or relaxation techniques to cultivate self-awareness and reduce stress.

Building a Strong Therapeutic Relationship:

Building a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship is fundamental to the success of our work together. I prioritize open communication, honesty, and mutual respect. I will always be transparent about the therapeutic process and ensure that you feel comfortable and informed at every step.

My first session

Our journey begins with a brief introductory phone call. This provides an opportunity for us to discuss your concerns and explore whether I am the right fit for your therapeutic needs.

Following the initial call, I will send you a copy of my professional contract. This document outlines important information regarding confidentiality, boundaries, and other essential aspects of our therapeutic relationship.

During our first in-person session, we will review the contract together and address any questions you may have. Once you've had a chance to review it, I will ask you to sign a copy for your records.

The remainder of our first session will be dedicated to getting to know you better. I will create a safe and welcoming space for you to share your concerns, expectations, and goals for therapy. This initial meeting will allow us to build rapport and ensure that we are a good fit for working together.
