Accreditation of Counsellors

Accredited BACP counsellor/psychotherapists have met and continue to maintain BACP’s highly regarded standards of professional training, practice and development. When searching for a counsellor/psychotherapist, BACP accreditation acts as a kitemark. Accreditation helps clients, colleagues and employers make informed decisions about the counsellor/psychotherapist they choose – reliable, safe and ultimately better decisions.

BACP Professional Standards welcomes applications from trained and experienced counsellor/psychotherapists who can demonstrate that they meet the criteria for counsellor/psychotherapist accreditation. If you wish to apply, please familiarise yourself with our application pack, complete the application form according to the information in the pack and return the application with your payment to Professional Standards. If you are not ready to make an application but would like to find out more about the process, you may wish to download the criteria or our application pack for your own reference.

From 1 April 2008 the following counsellor/psychotherapist fees will
apply:

Counsellor/psychotherapist accreditation application fee will be £205
Applicants who hold BACP membership at the reduced rate are eligible to
apply at half the accreditation fee i.e. £102.50

To re-submit an application or make an Appeal against a decision, the fee
will be £70

This will apply to all applications, re-submissions and appeals received
after 1 April 2008

You are welcome to contact us with any queries you may have about working towards accreditation or the application process.

Accreditation Workshops

Led by a member of BACP’s professional assessment team, each workshop includes an explanation of the criteria, plus guidance on completing the application forms and addressing the reflective practice criteria. There will be opportunities to ask questions and to network with your fellow delegates. Workshops are primarily for those who are working towards their accreditation or about to make an application, but may still be of benefit to those with an interest in becoming accredited.
