About me and my therapy practice

I'm Daniel Lee-Poulton and I'm a Counsellor in Bristol. Whether you are facing a crisis, grief, low confidence, anxiety, social anxiety, stress, relationship issues, sadness or depression, I can help. Beginning therapy is often a difficult process, and so is choosing a therapist. My advice would be to make an appointment with a practitioner that you think might be right for you and judge for yourself without making an immediate commitment. Please remember that you are in effect ‘hiring’ them, so do not hesitate to ask about experience, accreditation and education. My work involves getting to know all aspects of you in time, without prying or making judgments. You decide what is good to share, and when you're ready to share it. When I sometimes ask questions, it's either to understand your situation better or to help us reflect more deeply. I have worked with people with mental health issues for over a decade and am a fully qualified and registered member of the BACP. I have successfully provided counselling to clients in the NHS and for charities.

Practice description

I am a psychodynamic counsellor. Psychodynamic therapy is an open form of counselling in which your previous experiences are thought to have contributed to your current difficulties. We will look at both your current struggles and think about your life experience. My aim is to create a meaningful and trusting relationship, in which you can come to better understand yourself. In our work I will listen with empathy, understanding and without judgement. I am able to provide online therapy rather than in person if this suits.

My first session

I would suggest that we initially talk over the phone to organise a first session. You can arrange this by calling or emailing me. The first session is as confidential and therapeutic in nature as any other session. It is an opportunity for you to experience what working with me is like without an obligation to attend more sessions. This is also where you can ask questions relating to what you are looking for, and we can think together about the next steps in working together.
