About me and my therapy practice

My name is Jen - welcome to my profile.

Making the decision to seek counselling is a brave one.

You may be feeling overwhelmed by your emotions, and perhaps cautious about sharing the innermost parts of yourself with another person. It might be that the idea of counselling is completely new to you, and you aren’t sure what to expect.

Counselling can offer us an opportunity to explore those emotions, memories and parts of ourselves that are affecting us, both in our own time and in our own way.

As your counsellor, I am here to provide you with a safe space from where you can explore your life story. I am here to listen to you as you share those parts of yourself, and to support you as you move through those emotions to find your own power and autonomy.

I am a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor and a Registered Member of the BACP. In addition to practicing an integrative model, I also apply the principles of Trauma-Informed counselling to my work.

Being an Integrative Counsellor allows me to blend aspects of several models of counselling and psychotherapy to create a therapeutic relationship that is unique to each client.

I specialise in working with trauma, and have experience working with trauma, abuse, grief and loss, anxiety, depression and self esteem.

My current client group includes children, adolescents, and adults.

I am insured and hold an up-to-date, enhanced DBS check.

Practice description

To begin, I offer a free thirty minute consultation (online or by telephone) where we can discuss your hopes for counselling. You will have the opportunity to ask me any questions you may have about me or my practice - it is important that you feel comfortable with the therapy process, before moving forward.

If you would like to go ahead, we can arrange our first session. Sessions can be weekly or fortnightly, depending on your needs.

I can offer face to face sessions from premises in Upton-By-Chester, or from premises in Chester city centre. I can also offer counselling by telephone or online, should you prefer a remote option.

As an Integrative Counsellor, I will follow principles from three different models of counselling for our work together:

  • Person-Centred practice – traditional talking therapy, which is focuses on exploring emotions at your pace and in your own way;
  • Psychodynamic practice - exploring how our past experiences affect our day-to-day lives and our sense of self;
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - working together to challenge negative thoughts and behaviours.

I am also a certified practitioner of The Rewind Technique, which is a therapeutic technique designed to work with survivors of trauma.

My first session

During our first session, we can explore your reasons for coming to counselling and your hopes for what you would like to get from it. Sometimes people have an idea of what they want to achieve from counselling. Sometimes, people just want to see a change in themselves or their lives. I will be guided by you.

I will take time to explain the counselling process, including my methods of working, aspects of confidentiality and details of record keeping, and will be able to help with any questions you may have. We can explore the boundaries of therapy, and collaborate to ensure that we agree on how we will work together.

It is really important that you feel comfortable with me and able to trust me as your counsellor, and so our first session will also give us an opportunity to get to know one another.

It is also important to know that I will never expect you to share anything with me that you don't feel comfortable with. Therapy is a personal journey, and you hold the power and autonomy in what we explore.
