About me and my therapy practice

There are many reasons why people seek therapy, all equally valid. Sometimes life just feels heavy going and we need some help to make sense of our current situation. I'm Charlotte, an experienced counsellor supporting Adults to explore, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, eating issues, low self-esteem, confusion & anger to name just a few presenting issues.

You may not even know what is at the bottom of your sadness, fear, anxiety or frustration, you just know you don't feel good and it is affecting your every day life.

let me help you to untangle your feelings in a calm and positive space.

Being in therapy gives you the chance to offload and make sense of your past/current situation. Whatever your problem, specific issue, behaviour or feeling, I can offer you a safe, empathic and non-judgemental space to talk through how you are feeling and help you to feel better.

I will work with you to: -

Explore what is bothering you right now.

Understand the difference between normal human worry and anxiety.

Develop greater self-confidence and self-compassion.

learn to recognise and challenge the negative and critical thoughts in your head that affect you on a deeply emotional level.

Learn to make decisions based on what is good for you rather than people pleasing.

If you think you would like to work with me, please contact me, I look forward to hearing from you.

Practice description

I work with my clients On-line in a collaborative way using tools acquired from the Humanistic therapeutic models of Transactional Analysis (TA), Gestalt and Person Centred counselling. These models share the idea that the client is the expert in their own life challenges. I also work using Egan’s Skilled Helper Model, Compassion Focussed Therapy, CBT and Solution Focussed Therapy. Sessions are always conducted with the best outcome of the client in mind.

It is my belief that every person has the ability to create a better, more authentic life for themselves, to reach deep within and heal old wounds that are holding them back from their full potential. Successful therapy depends primarily on the quality of the relationship between client and therapist. As a humanistic counsellor it is my aim to provide you with a safe and confidential environment where you can talk openly without fear of criticism or judgement about the issues that are important to you.

I have a wealth of experience working with people from all walks of life. I worked for over twenty years as a Nurse for the NHS and I believe I bring my own rich and varied life experience to my therapeutic practice. Due to my own life challenges I accessed therapy for the first time in my twenties. Therapy has played a huge part in my own journey towards self-acceptance and self-compassion.

I have a particular interest in working with people with chronic illness, bereavement, binge eating disorder and other eating and body image issues.

My first session

Finding the right therapist is extremely important as you need to feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings. Therefore I offer a 30 minute introductory session free of charge via phone or zoom, this gives us the chance to get to know each other and for you to get a feel for how I work. We can then decide whether we'd like to work together. During this first session we will explore what you would like from therapy and how I can help you. I will fill in an assessment by asking you some questions, but mostly I will listen and allow you the time and space to share with me how you are feeling within a safe and non-judgemental environment.

Types of therapy

CBT, Emotionally focused therapy, Gestalt, Humanistic, Integrative, Person centred, Solution focused brief therapy, Transactional analysis
