About me and my therapy practice
Welcome to my page!
I am a person-centred therapist, meaning that I do not offer direct advice or instruction, but that I will help you to explore your needs from your perspective. I provide a compassionate, non-judgmental, and collaborative space where together we will explore the issues affecting you in your life, at your own pace.
The purpose of my work is not to "fix", but to increase your understanding and awareness, ultimately helping you to make change where you feel change is needed, and to accept yourself on your own terms.
I specialize in LGBTQ+ issues, addiction and compulsive behaviours, and suicidal ideation.
From the point of our first contact, you will be met with respect, your needs and concerns will heard and taken seriously.
Therapy is challenging, but it is also life-changing. If you are searching for a therapist, then there is a chance that something has become unsettled in life. Whether you are experiencing a conflict or crisis, if you feel stuck or at the end of the road, by seeking help you are already demonstrating to yourself the bravery and courage to make a change.
Practice description
I work with a range of issues including self-harm, identity, relationships, and workplace-related difficulties. If I have not mentioned any subjects that you need help with, but you feel we would be a good match, then I welcome contact from you.
The amount of time we work together will ultimately be decided by yourself. Whether our time together is short or long-term, I will be responsive to your needs as they develop.
Sessions are typically conducted on a weekly or fortnightly basis, on a set day and time each week. I am happy to accommodate your needs as they change, such as if your personal routine requires us to be more flexible in when we meet.
Alongside my private practice, I work with Serendipity (York) and Phoenix Health & Wellbeing (Leeds) where I can offer in-person and remote sessions.
My first session
Your first session is an opportunity for us to discuss what's led you to seek therapy at this time in your life, and to ask any questions you may have about how I work as a therapist and what you can expect from our time together.
My hope is that this time will help you to get a sense of how we can work together. Should we agree to proceed, we would then arrange a time and day to meet each week.
In our first session, we would discuss the contract underpinning our work together, including important details such as frequency and duration of sessions, payment, risk assessment, and the limits of confidentiality.
Sessions are 60 minutes in length, with the total number of sessions would be decided by yourself, and reviewed between us as counselling progresses.
