About the role

As part of our ongoing commitment to quality assurance and professional standards, we’re reviewing our supervision standards and requirements.

It’s been several years since our last review and we’re aware there are some gaps, and areas of discrepancy and potential confusion across our different membership categories.

We’re seeking to build a Supervision Expert Review Panel (SERP) which will be formed from members who are experts in both supervision training and practice.

We’d love to hear from members working across a range of practice settings, modalities, employment contexts and client groups.

What you’ll do

As a member of the SERP you’ll be required to attend online meetings (over Microsoft Teams) every 4 to 6 weeks between November 2026 and March 2027. You’ll review and feedback on papers both in advance of meetings and over email.

The review will involve looking at all aspects of supervision in terms of our monthly requirements for members at different developmental stages, supervision training and CPD and the development of new supervision accreditation schemes for supervisors and supervision training courses.

Who we’re looking for

We welcome applications from members who are experts in both supervision training and practice.

You should:

  • be a current BACP member and UK resident
  • hold a recognised supervision qualification or be able to evidence equivalent competence
  • have significant experience of providing counselling or psychotherapy supervision
  • have experience of delivering supervision training
  • demonstrate a sound understanding of supervision standards, ethics and professional practice
  • have knowledge of supervision across different modalities, sectors or client groups
  • have an understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion considerations within supervision practice
  • hold up to date knowledge of relevant legislation that applies when supervising counsellors and psychotherapists
  • be able to critically review documents and provide constructive feedback
  • be committed to the development of professional standards in supervision practice, training and CPD
  • be willing to work collaboratively as part of an expert panel

Beneficial experience

  • experience of developing, assessing or quality assuring training programmes
  • experience of accreditation, professional standards or competency framework development
  • experience of research, publication or policy development relating to supervision

Time commitment

We expect the time commitment to be around 4 to 6 hours every month over a 6-month period.

Remuneration

Your work will be renumerated on a contractual, hourly basis at £71.50 per hour.
