We invite you to join us for an interactive session, where you’ll have a chance to discuss a variety of topics with fellow members.

This session will be run via the Zoom meeting platform. The session will start with an overview of the breakout spaces, and instructions on how to access them. You’ll then be invited to choose a breakout space.

Key information

You’ll need to download the Zoom app in order to access the full functionality within the Connecting together session.

  • you’ll initially join a waiting room and will be let into the Zoom call as soon as possible after 12pm
  • you’ll be able to either take part with your camera turned on or off, depending on your preference
  • you’ll initially join the session with your microphone automatically muted. We ask that you remain muted throughout the introduction, and follow the instructions from each session host when you enter the breakout spaces.
  • the Zoom call, including breakout spaces, will not be recorded
  • there will be 10 sessions to choose from and there’ll be no limit on numbers for each breakout session. However, for the best experience please consider joining another session if your initial choice is very busy.

Help and FAQs

How do I download the Zoom app?

Visit the Zoom Download Centre and download the ‘Zoom Client for Meetings’ (if on a computer) or ‘Zoom Mobile Apps’ (if on a mobile device or iPad). If you forget to download beforehand, it will automatically download when you join the session.

I haven't received a Zoom meeting link, how do I access the Connecting together session?

There’ll be a button on the webcast platform page called Connecting together which will take you straight into the Connecting together Zoom call.

Do I need a Zoom account?

You won’t need a Zoom account to join as a participant.

How do I use the Zoom software once I’ve joined the meeting?

Zoom has lots of features for users, if you’re unfamiliar with Zoom, view Zoom’s meeting controls support page (opens in new window).

Can I test the meeting first?

Zoom have their own test meeting example that you can join here to get a feel for the system. View the test call (opens in new window).

How do I access the breakout spaces in the Zoom call?

The first 5 minutes of the Connecting together session will include an introduction to the breakout sessions, and instructions on how to join one.

We’ll open the breakout rooms after the introduction.

If you're using a laptop or computer:

You’ll see a Breakout rooms icon (four squares) in your meeting controls.

    1. click the Breakout rooms icon
    2. this will display the list of open breakout sessions available
    3. click Join next to the Breakout Room you wish to participant in, then confirm by clicking Join again
    4. repeat as necessary to join other breakout rooms, or click Leave Room to return to the main session

If you're using an iPad or tablet:

You’ll see a Join breakout rooms icon in the top left hand corner.

    1. click on the icon
    2. this will display the list of open breakout sessions available
    3. select the session you're interested in and select Join
    4. repeat as necessary to join other breakout rooms, or click Leave Room to return to the main session

Can I swap between breakout sessions?

Yes. You can swap between breakout sessions by following the same instructions above.

My breakout session is really busy, what should I do?

We've chosen not to restrict numbers for the breakout sessions so you have the flexibility to choose your sessions and move around. If your initial choice is very busy, we recommend trying another breakout session. We'd value your feedback on your experience so that we can improve the experience for future events.

The Zoom call is buffering/the picture and sound is broken up

We'd recommend closing down the original webcast platform page, or ensuring that you've paused the video from the original stream. You can also view our buffering tips for help in combating internet related challenges.

How do I get back to the main stream after lunch?

To return to the main stream, simply revisit your original joining instructions and click on the access link.
