Event aims

The main aims of this event are:

  • Increase understanding of burnout in therapeutic settings by exploring its key signs, contributing factors, and the unique stresses associated with clinical work.
  • Strengthen practitioners’ self-awareness by examining personal risk factors, emotional load, boundaries, and patterns that may increase vulnerability to burnout.
  • Introduce evidence based self care strategies that support emotional regulation, energy management, and sustainable therapeutic presence.
  • Develop practical approaches to workplace wellbeing including boundary-setting, managing caseload pressures, reflective practice, and seeking appropriate supervision/support.

Learning outcomes 

By attending this event, delegates will learn to:

  • Identify early signs and symptoms of burnout specific to therapeutic work and recognise how these may impact clinical effectiveness and personal wellbeing
  • Explain key factors that contribute to burnout (e.g., emotional load, trauma, workload, boundary challenges) within therapeutic and healthcare environments
  • Use reflective practice techniques to monitor personal stress levels, recognise patterns of overextension, and strengthen professional boundaries
  • Develop an individualised self care and wellbeing plan that incorporates practical strategies, supervision goals, and ongoing supports to maintain long term professional vitality
