Workplace counselling is operating within an increasingly complex environment. Counsellors are supporting clients experiencing a wide range of personal, psychological and workplace-related challenges, often within services designed to provide focused, time-limited interventions. At the same time, expectations of workplace mental health support continue to evolve, creating both opportunities and challenges for practitioners.
The programme will consider the changing nature of client need and the implications this may have for workplace counselling services. Delegates will explore the realities of working with clients experiencing higher levels of distress, complexity and risk, and reflect on how workplace counsellors can work safely and ethically while recognising the limits of the support they are able to provide.
Alongside these discussions, the event will explore the relationship between counselling, work and wellbeing. While work can be a source of stress and challenge, it can also contribute to purpose, identity, connection and meaning. Presentations will consider how counsellors can support clients to navigate workplace difficulties, develop agency and realistic expectations, and make decisions that promote wellbeing while respecting client autonomy. Attention will also be given to recognising how different lived experiences may affect an individual's relationship with work, workplace opportunities and wellbeing outcomes.
This event will be relevant to counsellors working in workplace settings, employee assistance programmes, occupational health services and private practice. Delegates will leave with a greater understanding of how diversity, identity and workplace context can shape therapeutic work, helping them to provide more inclusive and effective support for a broad range of clients.
