About me and my therapy practice

A warm welcome to Counselling,

I am a Senior BACP accredited integrative Counsellor with 19 years experience, specialising in Trauma. I am also an accredited EMDR practitioner & trained in Flash Technique.

We all need support at different times in our life and counselling can help in understanding what is happening to you and finding a way forward. Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed, depressed or stuck in a situation that no longer works for you.

You will experience an empathic listener in a safe, non-judgemental space to work together. The therapeutic relationship will be at the heart of the therapeutic process, deepening your insight and understanding to reduce your symptoms and empower you to attain a richer life.

Practice description

As an Integrative Counsellor in the Relational Model, I apply myself to the needs of the individual in a way that is appropriate therapeutically. This incorporates psychodynamic, humanistic, behavioural and attachment theories, techniques, and psychoeducational tools. The Relational Model recognises that relationships with significant others in our life shapes our emotional development and how we relate to ourselves. Given our history and experiences, we can become conditioned to unhealthy relational patterns whereby we are not fully ourselves or are connecting to others in the truest sense. This may manifest as depression, anxiety, anger, low self- esteem and more, rooted in a negative cycle of thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and physical symptoms. The Relational model recognises your past to help with your future.

Since qualifying I have specialised in trauma. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) it is an evidence-based powerful therapy best known for treating PTSD. EMDR is designed to stop difficult memories causing so much distress by helping the brain to reprocess them properly and integrate mind and body. EMDR can also help with anxiety, depression and more.

Flash Technique (FT) One of the most recent advances in processing traumatic or distressing memories without clients having to think, feel or discuss memories. Usually combined with my EMDR work.

I have extensive knowledge and experience working with a wide range of issues in multicultural settings, Education, GP surgeries, Council and NHS. Alongside counselling I have taught a certified course in counselling skills within colleges and delivered various psycho-educational courses to staff groups in the NHS. I have worked as a volunteer for 20 years; Childline, Victim Support & CRUSE Bereavement Care Scotland.

I have gone through a rigorous assessment process on my practice, professional development and ethical thinking to be accredited in both BACP/EMDR.
