About me and my therapy practice

I trained as a psychotherapist and counsellor in order to enable individual journeys of understanding, which bring relief and freedom.

Modern life is challenging. The way we respond to our fears, losses, traumas and relationships is largely  determined by our historic experience.  We are influenced by what we have learned from the past.

We know when we have arrived at a time when need to find a new way of managing.

For many years I have worked with mental health services, including the N.H.S.  I have seen that individuals can feel lost trying to cope among the complexities of modern living. Doctors are under pressure and may not have the time to really listen, which can leave us feeling helpless and alone.  I feel that it is more important than ever that each person has the opportunity to be helped to understand and take control of their own unique story.

In this way you can gain a renewed ability to feel and respond to life as you want to.

You are unique. No one can take this journey on your behalf.  I will listen, provide safety, and offer guidance when you want it; I do not judge or give advice. Only you will determine the direction, pace and depth of our work together.

You will lead your own journey.

Practice description

Events causing us to experience trauma can be the result of a significant one off experience, or made up of chronic repeated occurrences, which can lead us to battle with grief, stress, anxiety, anger, loss of self-worth, physical illness and/or depression. Trauma can be deep in the past, sometimes barely remembered or not consciously remembered at all. Or it may be more recent and overwhelming.   It can numb or distort our ability to feel.  It may affect our ability to manage relationships, to carry out our work or simply carry on with everyday life.

To break the binding chains we need to find a place of safety to  explore all the thoughts and fears which may have been holding us back from connecting with love or knowing success in our work, and feeling self-confident about our daily lives.

This can be a difficult or impossible task alone. I offer a safe confidential space where no one else will hear the words you need to say out loud. I provide gentle guidance and while listening to your words and emotions we explore your world together.

With understanding and acceptance confidence grows; the past becomes manageable.  You can become strong and free enough to move forward to the life you choose.

Each session is 50 minutes long.  Sometimes you may want just a few weeks or it may be for longer.  We will think about this together and you will decide.

My first session

The purpose of the first session is to discover if you are comfortable to work with me, and if I feel I can help you.  You can ask me any questions you might have.

I will ask you some questions.  Some will be about what you are wanting from counselling and some about your general background and personal details.  I will tell you about how I protect, store and use your data and about the way I work.

If you would like to go ahead we will then arrange a fixed weekly 50-minute slot(s) and we will agree the fees.  Prior to the beginning of our regular sessions I will send you an agreement (contract) together with data protection information which must be signed and returned before we begin.
