About me and my therapy practice
Hi - are you feeling stuck? Repeating the same patterns of behaviour again and again in your life or relationship and going round in circles? Do you feel a lack of love/respect with your partner or someone close to you? Has sex or intimacy become an issue but you're not quite sure how to approach it? Perhaps Covid or life changes have increased your anxiety and the trust has gone or you're feeling sad, stressed, lonely, angry, misunderstood, numb, or just not sure what you feel anymore . . .
It is important that everyone feels comfortable so I am happy to offer a free 15 minute Zoom/video or telephone consultation with no obligation ... just a chance to see how it feels to talk.
People seek counselling or self-help for many reasons but often the attention is solely on the person, not the impact of behaviour on those around them. I provide a safe, confidential, therapeutic space working collaboratively with individuals and couples helping make sense of what might be going on personally and also the overall effect.
Practice description
I am a CPCAB qualified practitioner, Accredited with the National Counselling Society and a fully Registered member of the BACP. I also work at Relate specialising in Relationship and Psychosexual therapy and in partnership with Tavistock focusing on Mentalization Behavioural Therapy (MBT) helping together and single parents in conflict achieve better communication.
I also offer Single Session Support (one-offs to off-load). This is for any of you who are unsure about therapy, on a waiting list or don't want a regular commitment but feel it could be helpful to talk through something that is weighing you down. It’s not always easy opening up to family and friends (however well intentioned they may be), so a dedicated session in a safe, unbiased way can be like an emotional detox to unburden and help us feel lighter. Some also use this as an opportunity for a ‘self-care check-in’ … you can rest assured knowing you have the option to check in or out with me whenever needed … no obligatory block bookings and no pressure.
My previous experience of working in the NHS and being a Leader for Samaritans made me conscious about giving more choice and autonomy to everybody when seeking support for their mental health. Using systemic, psychodynamic and embodied training with some neuroscience and a range of modalities, as you can see this is not a one-size-fits-all viewpoint - rather an organic approach and validation of perspectives - along with a uniqueness and non-judgmental attitude to help you and your situation.
Good self-esteem leads to healthy boundaries leading to positive relationships and all are key to the foundation of our general mental health and overall sense of wellbeing. If you're overwhelmed, feeling vulnerable or struggling with any of the above in your personal, professional or couple life, then please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Warmest wishes
Shaheen
