About me and my therapy practice

Welcome, and thank you for viewing my page.

You have taken the first step towards your counselling journey. If this is your first time or indeed even if you are a returning client, this can often seem like a daunting experience. Selecting your therapist is very important. Building rapport and placing trust in your therapist, within a 'safe space' where you feel supported and listened to, without fear of judgement, can help to restore your sense of purpose.

Counselling is a talking therapy, this is done at your own pace. It gives you time to explore any concerns and helps to find ways to manage the issues that are proving difficult for you, often gaining a deeper understanding of yourself in the process. There is nothing too big or too small to bring to counselling.

I have been working in the health industry for several years and my main interest has been within the mental health field. I am a Registered Member of BACP Dip Couns. (MBACP). I am also an Accredited member of the NCS (MNCS).   I work as an Integrative  therapist, this allows me to use different modalities in counselling and therapy,  or a blended method.  Each session is tailored to your own specific needs.

Sometimes life presents challenges, that we all experience in different ways. These difficulties can be emotional, distressing and overwhelming, leaving us exhausted and unable to cope with our daily obligations. Counselling can help towards making those small positive changes, to help you gain a different perspective.

As your counsellor, I will provide support and understanding. Together we can discuss and explore the thoughts, feelings and issues that have brought you to this point. Working together we can determine how your past experiences affect your present and future and begin to restore a more positive balance.

I have experience in a wide range of issues such as Bereavement, Abuse, Self esteem, OCD, Anxiety, Depression, Stress, Shame, Trauma, Addiction, Self-harm, Suicide ideation to name a few.

Practice description

My counselling service H. Phillips Counselling is based in Northern Ireland in the Cookstown, Mid-Ulster area.

One-to-one counselling takes place in a safe comfortable and welcoming space within my counselling office.

I am trained in online or telephone counselling.  This enables me to counsel locally within Northern Ireland, or UK wide.

If you prefer, we can arrange our sessions remotely or if you are unable to access the office.

Walk and talk therapy is available (weather and time permitting)

I provide therapy to children, young people and adults.

I am fully insured and ICO registered, I also hold an up-to-date Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate (DBS)

I have worked in the Northern Trust, NHS and voluntary sector offering support in many areas.  As well as my own private practice, I facilitate a clinic in Lurgan twice weekly, offering counselling to both EAP and private clients.  I also provide counselling and emotional support on a UK wide helpline to clients when they need it most, often taking crisis calls and alerting any medical or emergency service if necessary.

Parking is available outside the practice, (please park within the parking areas that are clearly marked) or at Lidl's/Argos car park just a short walk away.

The practice can be located beside Aarons Gym and opposite the PSNI station.  It is within the Energy Mind and Body  Complex.

My first session

Our first session together is an opportunity to meet and get to know each other. There are some standard questions that I go through with each client. I will explain how I work as a therapist as well as explaining about confidentially. I will also answer any questions or concerns you may have.

It may be necessary to do a short assessment to understand more about you and any issues you are currently experiencing.

We will also discuss what you would like to achieve through counselling and any goals you would like to work towards. If you have any apprehensions or expectations. By being able to focus on your feelings and develop self-awareness, this can help bring about positive change.

If you are still unsure if counselling is the right pathway for you, I can offer a short 20 minute telephone consultation, if you feel this may be of benefit to you.

There is no charge for this.

Our initial meeting will last approximately 50 -60 minutes. During this time we will discuss what you see as your main issues, is there a combination of issues you are currently facing? perhaps something is blocking you from moving forward and progressing further, you may not know what it is that is troubling you. That's ok. There is no pressure to reveal or discuss anything you do not feel comfortable doing. You decide what details you wish to share.

Feeling comfortable with your therapist is key to a successful ongoing therapeutic relationship.

Any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
