About me and my therapy practice
Life gets in the way of living
Feelings, thoughts, concerns, and anxieties can get in the way, and we can struggle to understand things from the past that impact on us and our mental Health. These can prevent clear thinking. They can create worries and concerns or reactions you don’t like in the present that may cause anxiety, shame, confusion, or possible feelings of guilt that are hard to recognise and acknowledge or cope with.
We are a mix of our pasts, race, sex, gender, relationships, and family history that impact and create who we are. As individuals we can struggle to make sense of it all and to question, Why do I do that? Why does that affect me? Why does that hurt? Why am I so scared? Why did they do that? If we can try to understand and make sense of it all or just get to a place that we can begin to look forward.
Life events can trigger emotions that are difficult to understand or express. Sudden trauma, redundancy, a business failure, a relationship breakdown, bereavement, abuse, bullying and harassment, or gender and sexual identity. The list is endless and is as individual as us. These actions and feelings can lead to stress, depression, and feelings of low self-esteem. They may also cause a reaction of self-destruction, self-harm, eating disorders, drinking, drug use and other issues.
As a client focused counsellor, I believe that you make the choices and decide your future. My role is to help you realise you have the ability to make sense of the past and find the belief to reach a comfortable acceptance to impact on your future. My role is to listen, support, reassure, encourage and question to assist you in that process.
Whatever the difficulties you are facing, the emotions you are feeling, I believe we can work through it together. My training as an integrative counsellor allows the depth of skills to have a flexible and individual approach to you as a client and to provide a bespoke service, based on a humanistic and client focused approach
Seeking counselling/therapy can be a daunting challenge but also a rewarding one so my aim is to make it as simple as possible.
I offer Video counselling which allows you to recieve assistance from wherever you feel comfortable and safe. With the benefit of saving you time and the expense of having to find the address, travel, and park.
I use Zoom which allows me to send you a simple link to click on to join the session, but can also work on Teams, Skype, WhatsApp Video or Googlemeet.
I am a member of the BACP and work within their ethical framework, fully insured and DBS checked.
My first session
I offer a 30 minute initial session at no cost to the client. This allows you to briefly outline why you are coming to counselling, and what you wish to achieve. We can also decide if we feel we can work together and to agree the boundaries and conditions of our work.
This also allows time to get the process of joining the sessions working and if necessary chat on the phone to smooth the way and over come any difficulties.
