About me and my therapy practice
I am an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist and Play and Creative Arts Counsellor of Children and Young People . I use art, clay, sand play, music, puppetry, poetry and movement to enable difficult thoughts or feelings to be expressed when words alone are hard to find.
The making of an image and the image itself can help to express painful or strong emotions in a safe and contained way.
The use of the arts provides a creative way to communicate and seek solutions.
Using a range of art forms means a person can use different arts to suit their needs.
No previous experience of using the arts is required.
The arts are for everyone!
Experience
I have over twenty years experience working with Adults, Children and Young People in a range of settings including Child and Adolescent Social Services Teams, CAMHS, Relate, Education, ASD units and YOT teams.
I have extensive experience of working with Children and Young People with an autism diagnosis. I have provided seminars and workshops for therapists and teaching staff on how to develop a therapeutic relationship, how to support and be an advocate for this client group.
Qualifications and Training
I am a BACP accredited therapist which certifies that I have continued to develop my skills and experience beyond my original qualification and that I attend regular training and supervision to maintain a high standard of practice.
I graduated with a Masters Degree in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy in 2004 at the Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education. In 2019 I obtained a Level 6 Advanced Diploma with Merit in Counselling Children and Young People using the Creative Arts at the Academy of Play and Child Psychotherapy (APAC) accredited programme with Leeds Beckett University.
