About me and my therapy practice
Hello and Welcome,
Firstly congratulations on finding the courage to take the first step towards seeking help, which is often the most difficult one to make.
If somehow you feel ashamed, embarrassed or guilty for not being able to cope right now, maybe it would help to view accessing counselling help as just the ultimate in self care instead...how beneficial it could be to get the help you need before you get to the point of desperation and needing to see a doctor, why struggle on for longer than is necessary if you have noticed changes in your sleeping patterns, eating habits, level of motivation or loss of libido, theses are all signs that something isn't right in your life.
A successful counselling relationship is built on mutual honesty, trust and genuineness with you experiencing me as being completely empathetic, congruent and authentic. You bring your own knowledge and experience of yourself and my role is to be alongside you on your journey, valuing you, listening, reflecting, tentatively challenging you which then can provide a fresh perspective on finding a way through the issue/problem you have. I believe that it is our relationships and our experiences within these, from our childhood to the present day that shape and influence who we are.
I offer both short and long-term therapy depending on individual needs, but it is up to you how long you wish to continue counselling. I usually do a review after several sessions so that we can see where we have come, with the aim of keeping our work together focused on the outcomes that you want to achieve.
Whatever your reason for coming to counselling you can expect to receive respect, encouragement, support, understanding and my undivided attention.
