About me and my therapy practice

I'm an experienced person-centred counsellor/psychotherapist, working with individuals of all ages. I hold a Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Aberdeen and am a registered member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Accordingly, I work within their Ethical Framework. My background is in youth and community work, having worked for various local authorities and voluntary organisations. I’ve been employed within the educational sector for twenty years and have extensive experience of counselling young people. In addition to my private practice, I have also been part of the team at Crisis Counselling in Erskine since 2014. During this time, I have worked with many clients of all ages and backgrounds, covering a huge range of issues. As a musician, I also have a particular interest in creative processes and in how they can impact –both positively and negatively- on our mental health and well-being.

Practice description

I believe that counselling can help when we are trying to solve problems but can’t find a way forward. Perhaps the things that are troubling us can’t be shared with family and friends; perhaps we can’t even put our finger on exactly what the issues are. That’s when we might benefit from having a non-judgemental and supportive listener who can help us explore our concerns and cope with the challenges that life presents. My focus as a therapist is on finding ways to help clients become better versions of themselves. I work using Zoom but I also see clients face to face in Glasgow City Centre. My counselling fees start at £40 per session for telephone and Zoom sessions, £50 for face-to-face work. Each session will normally last for 50 minutes. Longer sessions are available upon request. Sometimes, clients only need a handful of sessions to get what they need from the process, but generally we’d be looking at 6 to 8 meetings, with a review built in at that point to see if we’d like to take things further.

If you are a parent or carer seeking counselling for a young person, I’d suggest that this is best conducted in-person, although online counselling is also possible. This can be negotiated on an individual basis and I will work with you to find the arrangement that works best for you and your family member.

My first session

Making that first move to ask for help is often the hardest step, but if you’d like to have a chat about the possibility of us working together, the first thing to do is drop me a line. I will try to respond to you within 24 hours.

We’ll then arrange a mutually convenient time for us to have a free, introductory 15-minute chat on Zoom or by telephone. This will give me the opportunity to hear what is going on for you and discover what it is that you’d like to get from the counselling process. There would be no obligation to work together at this point, but if you are happy, we’ll set up our first meeting. I will then email you a copy of our counselling contract and ask that you read and sign this in time for your first appointment.
