About me and my therapy practice
Looking for change? I am trained to listen and will be fully focused on you. I offer support to explore and address any feelings, thoughts or behaviours that are negatively affecting your life. I am passionate about providing counselling that opens a pathway to more inner strength, joy and freedom.
My background and experience
Before training as a counsellor, I worked at Victim Support and supported survivors of rape, sexual assault and domestic abuse, in addition to many other types of crime. I have also been employed in schools, addiction recovery settings and a prison, primarily as a teacher but also incorporating mind-body approaches such as shiatsu and meditation.
As a counsellor in an NHS medical practice, I assisted clients with many issues, for example, bereavement and trauma. I have studied a range of counselling theories, so I create an individualised approach to meet your unique needs. My areas of special interest are depression, anxiety, family issues and low self-esteem. I have also engaged in workshops on discussing sexual problems in an inclusive, open and sensitive way.
For new clients, I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation, in which you can tell me about what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to achieve. Together, we can explore whether we are a good fit, and if not, we can discuss other ways for you to move forward.
I have had counselling myself, so I understand that it can take a lot to reach out for help and will treat you with kindness and respect. Clients have told me they have especially appreciated 'really being heard', and 'never being judged or told what to do'. I will relate to you with warmth, empathy and compassion.
I am currently providing online sessions only, using Zoom. I review this regularly and will offer a transition to in-person sessions, when this becomes possible.
When working in-person, I practice from a quiet, spacious, well-ventilated room on the ground floor. I also have a comfortable and confidential outdoors space, which worked well in between lockdowns, when the weather permitted. There is unrestricted parking in the local area.
I have experience of accommodating wheel-chair users, so please let me know if you have any physical access needs. I’d like to make your visit smooth and dignified, whatever your age or physical ability. I offer sessions of 50 minutes on a weekly basis. Occasionally, for practical or financial reasons, it can be helpful to have less frequent sessions.
Please email or text to arrange your free 15 minute consultation. In this, I will ask some questions to check whether counselling is right for you and will invite you to ask anything you'd like to know. Following this, with no obligation, you can decide whether you would like to book an initial session.
My first session
In your first session, we will get to know each other and you will gain an experience of what counselling with me is like.
I will ask you questions about your life in general, as well as your main concern. If there is something you do not want to talk about, I will fully respect that, whilst leaving the option open for you to return to anything important when you are ready.
I offer brief and extended work and we will talk about how long you would like to use counselling for. This is flexible based on your need and open for regular review.
I offer first sessions of 50 minutes for £50, which is the same as my continuing sessions.
