About me and my therapy practice

I am Kathryn, a fully qualified and BACP registered counsellor. I am also an experienced coach accredited by Cambridge University. This means my approach may be a little different to some counsellors. I understand from experience how much courage it can take to seek help when life gets difficult and that the cost can be often daunting. Based on my experience and qualifications my standard session rate is £50 (£40 for young people under 18). I also reserve a number of slots each week with concessionary rates.

In my couples therapy work I am able to offer a mix of both joint and individual sessions which are tailored to address the needs of each relationship. Joint sessions are £60. I am qualified with Relate in relationship counselling and I am trained in the Gottman Method of couples therapy. I also work with the imago approach which can greatly reduce conflict. For couples who decide to separate I can offer a process called conscious uncoupling. This is extremely beneficial for welfare, particularly where children are involved.

I am passionate about emotional health and helping people grow their sense of self-worth, self-esteem and self-confidence. My main work now is helping people work through anxiety, depression, stress, issues from childhood, relationship breakdown and recovery.

I listen but I don't just listen! I am also available to offer principles, skills and strategies which can help not only with current situations but which are also designed to last a lifetime. I can also offer free resources for you to work on in-between sessions if you would like them.

Practice description

My main work as a counsellor is with anxiety, depression, stress, relationship breakdown and recovery. This includes recovery from the effects of infidelity. I have extensive training in other areas and I am happy to discuss your individual needs.

In addition to working as a counsellor I have previous experience in the corporate world as a senior manager and subsequently in running my own business, including managing staff and working as a coach and mentor. I therefore understand the pressures and stresses of being both employed and self employed. I have also been through my own personal experiences of divorce, relationship recovery and raising children who are now young adults, so I am well versed in life’s many challenges.

My own personal experience of coaching and therapy was very positive which is what motivated me to train in the professional work I do now.

I am qualified to work with adults, young people and couples. My training and continued professional development qualifications are as follows:

CPCAB accredited Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling

Certificate in Coaching, University of Cambridge

Relate Certificate in Relational Counselling

Bereavement Counselling

Addiction Recovery Counselling

Domestic Abuse

Personality Disorders

Shame and Early Relational Trauma

Mental Health First Aid Training

Gestalt Therapy Training

Rewind Trauma Training

Inner Child and Attachment Theory

Sleep and Dreams Therapy

Anger Stress Management & Emotional Resilience

Child Protection and Safeguarding

Thriving Adolescent Training

Gottman Levels 1 & 2 Couples Therapy.

My first session

In your first session we will review your hopes, goals and expectations for counselling, along with any previous experiences, concerns and questions you might have.

It is important that you are able to develop a relationship of trust with your counsellor and I take this responsibility very seriously. In our first session it is important that you decide if I am the right person for you.

My own personal experience of therapy is that whilst listening is very important many clients want and need more than just to talk. I therefore offer a confidential space for you to discuss anything you need to process as well as offering resources which will help you to make changes in areas of your life which are not working for you. I offer principles, strategies and skills which can help you to grow in your understanding of yourself and others. I can offer guidance to work through current situations in a way which will also translate to a broader application for you life in general.

I am happy to offer and suggest free resources to support you between sessions and which are tailored to your specific needs and goals.

I am qualified to work with adults, young people and couples. I have worked with adolescents in a school counselling environment as well as in bereavement and addiction recovery counselling and I still volunteer a proportion of my time.
