About me and my therapy practice
I believe with help and support we can all reduce our emotional distress, a step at a time. I offer a confidential, safe and non-judgemental space for adults (over 18 years of age) at any stage of their lives, to explore their thoughts, feelings and relationships to reduce anxiety, stress, sadness, confusion and/or face their losses through bereavement, redundancy, divorce or other status changes, either current concerns or those worries arising from the past.
I believe counselling and psychotherapy are not just for people with mental health illness but also for those who struggle with life, either short-term or as a longer-term issue. It would be my intention to walk beside you to offer support through listening, reflection and non-directive intervention, helping you to find your own pathway, using the Humanistic techniques of Person-Centred and Gestalt theory, as well as theory from both Counselling and Psychology research.
I worked for some years in mental health research, moving from psychology to counselling over the last 20 years (volunteering with Cruse Bereavement Care, and, more recently the Bereavement Counselling Charity). I therefore offer both historical and more recent experience and educational qualifications and I am constantly updating my education through continuing professional development (CPD) in line with BACP Guidelines. I hold a BSc. in Psychology (1997) an MSc in Health Psychology (which included counselling around health issues, 2000) and a Diploma in Humanistic Counselling (2019). I am a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a registered member of British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists (BACP) and I comply with their Ethics, Guidelines and Complaints procedure. In addition, I hold an ACTO recognised qualification in On-line and Telephone counselling.
My first session
I offer an initial reduced price session (approximately 40-50 minutes) at £20 (payable by bank transfer in advance) either by telephone or video call for you to give me an overview of your reasons for seeking counselling, to ensure that you feel comfortable and safe with my way of working and that my skills meet your needs. Subsequent sessions are £40 per session, normally on a weekly basis at a time arranged by mutual agreement. Please discuss it with me if you would like shorter sessions or at different intervals. Whilst I can offer flexible hours, evening appointments are limited. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like any further by telephone, text or e-mail if you would like any information.
Unfortunately I am currently unable to offer face to face sessions or home visits.
