About me and my therapy practice
I believe in a respectful focus on the individual, which sensitively considers your unique history, context, and life situation. I listen with empathy to enable us to explore your concerns at a safe pace. My aim is to bring a good quality of attention to you, that will help you learn about your needs and how to meet them. I work with people who wish to understand and manage their emotions better and to explore their feelings, thoughts, behaviours, and potential.
Trauma, abuse, loss, neglect, and a whole range of relationship experiences, from the loving to the misaligned to the deeply harmful, all understandably create patterns of coping that can take time, compassion, and care to understand and develop from. I work with people on their early learnt experiences and the effect of these on personality, relationships, work, and emotional management in the here-and-now. I offer a range of educational approaches around mental health and personal growth that might be helpful for you, as a unique person. I have years of experience supporting self-employed people in a coaching capacity and I have been working in the NHS as an honorary Cognitive Analytic Therapist since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Therapy, and the self-awareness that develops from it, can help shift feelings of being stuck in depression, anxiety, shame and bring insight and change to other symptoms, including obsessions and so on. Paying attention to your vulnerabilities, defences and strengths through our dialogue helps you to meet the need to be deeply heard and understood. The relationship is aimed to bring clarity and acceptance as part of growth.
I have experience of working with people from a very wide range of cultural backgrounds and lived experience. I am experienced with working with sexuality, gender, cultural identity, and with LGBTQI people and my inclusive approach welcomes self-exploration, including spiritual and philosophical journeys.
I understand that approaching and meeting a therapist for the first time takes courage. I believe that people have inner wisdom and a natural healing process. I hope to support you to recover and build on that potential. My aim is to help you grow in autonomy, self-respect, and self-love with strategies to help you cope better and live your life in more creative ways, leading to richer relationships with yourself and others. I believe that a commitment to therapy can change lives profoundly for the better.
My first session
Our first session will be for the usual 50 minutes. I offer a reduced rate for this session. I will ask you questions to try to build a mutual understanding between us about whether working with me will be a good way forward for you. I also welcome your questions.
