About me and my therapy practice
What kind of a counsellor am I?
I became a counsellor in my 40s, and bring all my previous life’s experience into my work with my clients.
I’m a person-centred counsellor; integrating Jungian and Buddhist understanding into my approach to helping others. I love deep, life-changing work; exploring what it is to be human, what it is to be you. I aim to enter as authentically as I can into my relationships with my clients. In my experience, the understanding and change you seek can be found in such a relationship.
I qualified at Bath Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy. During my four and a half years of training, I spent over 3 years in clinical placement, but now work exclusively as a private practitioner. I have experience of working with a wide range of issues, particularly trauma and addiction.
With the slow easing of social restrictions I'm feeling my way back into face-to-face work, doing all I practicably can to keep things as safe as possible for all my clients. Initially I can offer remote counselling by Zoom or telephone, with the expectation of moving to face-to-face work on an every-other-week basis after a few weeks, and face-to-face work every week when all social restrictions are lifted. The option to work remotely will always be available. I would have to reassess this situation were we to enter another lock down. (updated 10/06/21)
I'm a member of BACP, and abide by their Ethical Framework.
I’m fully insured.
Why come to see a counsellor?
We all experience difficulties at one time or another. It could be that our relationships aren’t all we'd like them to be. Or perhaps we feel anxious, depressed, lonely, or we’re grieving a loss. Perhaps we behave in ways that we'd rather not, or that we don't understand. Or maybe life has lost its meaning, we've lost our sense of direction, feel stuck, or just don't know who we are any more.
Counselling offers a safe, confidential space in which to explore such issues in relationship with someone who is skilled, non-judgemental, and really there for you. A space in which to come to terms with things, and allow them to change for the better.
Counselling generally works best on a weekly basis. Short term therapy for specific issues may last for a few months, while deeper work may continue for several years.
My first session
I offer a free 50 minute initial session to allow you to get a feel for the way I work as a counsellor. If you go on to decide that you’d like to take up therapy with me, I then charge £45 per 50 minute session.
I offer several low cost places a week. Please feel free to ask about this if my normal fee is more than you can afford.
