About me and my therapy practice

I am a trained and qualified therapist working with adults, children, teenagers and young people. I work integratively, employing the main theoretical disciplines, but predominantly use person-centred, CBT, Solutions-focussed, Psychodynamic and Creative therapies. I adapt my approach specifically to suit each client. No two people I work with are the same, everyone is unique.

I am warm, caring and genuine, my aim always is to listen with care and support you in exploring your difficulties. Very much we will be working together collaboratively. I see my place as providing a safe environment for you to look at and talk through areas of difficulty and issues. All the time we spend together will be responsive to and guided by you.

I don't shy away from challenge in helping you explore and understand yourself and your thoughts and actions but do this always in a gentle, collaborative investigative way, helping you to challenge and understand yourself better. Therapy will be directed towards exploring your goals, aims and wishes.

I do understand that starting counselling can be difficult and a step into the unknown for many people - I am happy to put you at ease and we will always have an initial session where we can talk through what to expect and what you want from your sessions.

Practice description

I offer, and am qualified in online, telephone, email and face-to-face counselling, all based from my own home. Face to face therapy is delivered from a purpose-built therapy room situated in a garden setting. Where appropriate I also offer home visits.

I am able to provide both short/fixed-term therapy and open-ended/longer-term therapy according to your needs and always review with you regularly to check in how the counselling is progressing and working for you. We will work together towards an ending when that is appropriate for you.

I am happy to work with most issues and have particular experience of working with teenagers and children including those with disabilities, learning difficulties and special needs and their parents.

I also work with adults and people of any age with disabilities, special needs and with gender/sexuality issues. Additionally I also with clients who have suffered bereavement and those with short or long term health concerns including terminal illness. I have experience of working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Counselling should be accessible to as many people as possible.

My first session

Sessions are always 50 minutes, (therapeutic hour) and during our first session this is an opportunity to take an overview of what you feel is important to you and/or that you need help with.

We will talk through what I can offer, what you can expect and the intention is that you will leave with enough information to be able to decide if you feel comfortable working with me. If so, then we will arrange further sessions and talk about how that will work.

It's important that you feel happy and ready to proceed. You can always, ask me questions and I am always happy to talk about any concerns or reservations you might have.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a trained, qualified supervisor working online and  face-to-face, experienced in working with CYP, educational settings, learning difficulties, long term illness, disabilities and gender..

A good supervisor/supervisee relationship is vital in supporting you in your work as a therapist; my aim is to make that a welcoming but useful relationship where we learn from each other and where questions, doubts and worries can be discussed openly.  We will also always recognise and celebrate what has worked well in your practice.

I offer face-to-face supervision but have also specific training in working online and am therefore able to offer Online/remote/distance Supervision. The BACP and other counselling organisations recommend that counsellors/therapists working online/telephone should receive supervision in the same mode as they practice and that supervisors offering online supervision should have knowledge and experience of online and phone therapy in order to deliver online supervision.  Many supervisors now offer online supervision, which is great as this is definitely one of the ways forward now. However, not all supervisors have received specific training and this can mean being unaware of the specific risks, challenges and benefits of counselling/supervising online or via phone.

My aim, whether meeting in person or online is always to create a safe, warm and trust-filled space recognising that you are the expert on your client(s) where we can together take a step back and look at the strengths, achievements in your work and also explore collaboratively any difficulties or dilemmas.

I practice integratively with experience particularly in person-centred, CBT, solutions-focussed and also psychodynamic modalities and I have experience of working in educational settings and with children and young people, (CYP)

Practice description

I offer online, telephone, email and face-to-face supervision and counselling. I work predominantly based from home and where we agree to meet face to face for supervision, this will be in a purpose-built therapy room situated in a garden setting.

I am happy to provide one-off, short/fixed-term supervision as well as open-ended/longer-term Supervision according to your needs.

We will  always work collaboratively and will review regularly to check in how the supervision is progressing and working for you.

I am happy to work with most issues and client groups and have particular experience of working with school/educational settings,  teenagers and children including those with disabilities, learning difficulties and special needs and their parents.

In my own practice I work with adults and people of any age with disabilities, special needs and with gender/sexuality issues. Additionally I also work with clients who have suffered bereavement and those with short or long term health concerns including terminal illness.  I have experience of working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

I firmly take the view that  supervision and counselling should be as inclusive and accessible to as many people as possible - if you have any particular needs or disabilities, please feel free to let me know and I will do my best to accommodate.

My first session

The duration of supervisory sessions will be arranged to reflect your supervision needs, usually either an hour or an hour and a half.

Before we meet for our first session it can be useful to get to know each other a little; to get an idea of what is important to you, how you work and, of course for you to ask questions and find out a bit more about me and how I work so that you can decide whether you would like to work with me.

I always endeavour to let you know what I can offer, what you can expect with the intention that you have enough information to be able to decide if you feel comfortable working with me. If so, then we will arrange further sessions and talk about how that will work.

It's important that you feel happy and ready to proceed. You can always, ask me questions and I am always happy to talk about any concerns or reservations you might have.
