About me and my therapy practice
Whether you are looking for a session or two, or more long-term Counselling, I offer a friendly, calm place where you will have time and my complete attention to talk and be heard. Many problems are too difficult to resolve alone and often it is easier to speak to someone not directly involved.
Through Counselling, many people understand more about who they are and why they behave as they do. Knowing this, allows them to manage emotions and relationships in a healthier way. We will also look to see what matters most to you which can make decisions and choices simpler.
I am an Integrative therapist; I draw on different Counselling approaches, whatever will help you manage your life in a way that works for you.
I see couples and individuals privately. My experience includes working with communication problems, addictions, depression, anxiety, sadness, loss, anger, abuse, lack of confidence or self-esteem, relationship, confusion, family and societal issues. I have been a Counsellor and Assessor at Catalyst, a Guildford based drug, alcohol and well-being charity, and have also counselled at YMCA in Guildford.
In individual Counselling I focus on your personal meaning. Often patterns of thinking and behaviour become established and reoccur in unhelpful ways. Being aware of these enables you to respond differently.
Couples Counselling looks to strengthen your relationship whether you are having difficulties currently or are seeking ways to deepen your connection. Sometimes Counselling can also help couples to part more easily. I need both partners to contact me directly so that I know I have permission to get in touch with both.
It is vital that the Counselling relationship will work for you, that you feel comfortable and able to trust me.
My first session
You can begin to feel comfortable talking to me and get a sense of whether my counselling will be helpful.
For Online Counselling, you will already have sent me some information about yourself and what is bringing you to Counselling. In Face to Face Counselling, you would complete this brief form during your first session.
I will tell you a little more about how I work, and you can ask any questions you may have. We will look at what you are hoping to gain from sessions and what might have helped or hindered previously. From there we will talk through your present, everyday situation and connection with others. This is so we can start to see whether and what support networks, such as family, friends, colleagues, could also be helpful.
By the end of the session, we will both have a common understanding of what has brought you to Counselling and can begin to work constructively together.
I offer initial appointments at a reduced rate of £30 for individuals for a one-hour session. If you are considering very brief counselling, I suggest starting with a session of 90 minutes. A first appointment for partners is £45.
