About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome to my page,

I offer a judgement free space where you can both be yourself and learn to change in ways that feel safe and lasting without the danger of rejection. I believe that an accepting approach can open up a space of trust for you to explore what you are experiencing more fully. While this may sound daunting, I have found that we have little to fear but fear itself and that you have everything inside you to lead a joyful and fulfilling life.

Often these fears hold us back in life and in relationships and prevent us from experiencing the joy and love we have been working so hard to attain. The way I work centres on the idea of creating an environment free from judgement where you can begin to explore yourself a bit deeper without having to hold back certain aspects of your self.

I work as a Person-centred counsellor. This means that, for me, therapy is about the person you are today and how you feel about the relationships you have to those around you and to yourself.

I hope to help create a genuine empathic relationship with you which will give you the opportunity to change the way you see yourself, your life story and your future. I believe that the body can often be a helpful source of understanding and awareness and I can include mindfulness practices when appropriate and desired.

I am twelve step friendly and familiar with Anonymous and Al-Anon programmes. I believe in an empowerment approach to working with disordered eating and trauma

I specialise in working with Addictions, Eating disorders, Post-traumatic stress, Relationships, Self esteem, Trauma

I am Registered with the BACP. I have worked within an NHS service and as a counsellor in private practice with a wide variety of clients. I currently work at the Recovery Lighthouse addiction rehabilitation centre as a psychotherapist assisting people in their recovery.

Practice description

I have resumed working face to face but I continue to find online counselling equally rewarding and am happy to offer it indefinitely.

From August I will return to my practice at 198 Church Rd. in Hove.  It is a newly renovated and wheelchair accessible building. We have implemented extensive safety measures including added ventilation in order to ensure safety during the present crisis.

It is serviced by the 1, 1a, 6 and 49 bus routes (alight between Sackville Road and George Street). We are about 5mins drive from Hove railway station. Pay & display parking is directly outside the practice and in several nearby streets as well as across the road at Tesco's.

My first session

I offer a free introductory session online or via telephone for us to meet each other and give you the opportunity to decide if you feel like I am the counsellor you would most like to work with. If you would like to continue, sessions would last 50 min and be at the same agreed time each week. My fee is 45 pounds per session. I offer concessions to counselling students and those on low incomes. This can be negotiated either prior to our initial meeting or during the introductory session.
