About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome to my page,

I work as a Person-centred counsellor. This means that for me, therapy is about the person you are today and how you feel about the relationships you have to those around you and to yourself. The way I work centres on the idea of creating an environment free from judgement where you can both be yourself and learn to change in ways that feel safe and lasting without the danger of rejection.

This extends explicitly to those who feel they are not free to express aspects of their identity openly in the world without meeting with discrimination. My hope is that by representing myself honestly, we may come to a place of mutual trust in which you feel able to share yourself freely without fear of judgement or encountering my white male fragility.

I do not consider myself an expert on your life. I consider my most useful skill-set as a therapist to be my ability to explore the unfamiliar experience of another person with genuine acceptance. My belief is that each of us have the right and the capacity for living a joyful and fulfilling life and that connecting more deeply with our experience is what ultimately helps to make our way forward seem clearer.

I believe that the body can often be a helpful source of understanding and I include mindfulness practices when appropriate and desired.

I am climate aware and acknowledge the spectrum of emotions the degradation of our environment may bring with it.

I am twelve step friendly and familiar with Anonymous and Al-Anon programmes. I believe in an empowerment approach to working with disordered eating and trauma.

I am Registered with the BACP. I have worked within an NHS service as well as in an addiction rehabilitation centre as a psychotherapist helping people in their recovery. I currently work as a lecturer on a Person-Centred Counselling course as well as in private practice.

Practice description

I practice online from a secure, confidential environment free of disruption.

My first session

I offer a free introductory session face to face, online or via telephone for us to meet each other and give you the opportunity to decide if you feel like I am the counsellor you would most like to work with. If you would like to continue sessions would last 50 min and be at the same agreed time each week. I operate a sliding scale ranging between 45 and 70 pounds per session with the lower end of this scale reserved for counselling students and those on low incomes. This is based on a self assessment of your ability to pay and enables me to more readily provide my services to those who I may find it more difficult to accommodate. This can be negotiated either prior to our initial meeting or during the introductory session.

I look forward to meeting you.

Practice description

I have resumed working face to face but I continue to find online counselling equally rewarding and am happy to offer it indefinitely.

I practice from 198 Church Rd. It is a newly renovated and wheelchair accessible building. We have implemented extensive safety measures including added ventilation in order to ensure safety during the present crisis.

It is serviced by the 1, 1a, 6 and 49 bus routes (alight between Sackville Road and George Street). We are about 5mins drive from Hove railway station. Pay & display parking is directly outside the practice and in several nearby streets as well as across the road at Tesco's.

If you would like to continue sessions would last 50 min and be at the same agreed time each week. I operate a sliding scale ranging from 30-60 pounds per session based on a self assessment of your ability to pay and open to change to match your circumstances. This enables me to provide my services more easily to those on lower incomes. I also offer concessions to counselling students. This can be negotiated either prior to our initial meeting or during the introductory session. In case of face to face introductory sessions I do ask a 10 pound fee to cover the cost of room hire.

I look forward to meeting you.
