About me and my therapy practice
At times you may feel alone and have difficulty coping - at these times counselling can be helpful and I am here to help you. Communication and support is necessary at times of difficulty, crisis, heightened anxiety and isolation. I can support you in face-to-face sessions - during Covid-19 distancing guidelines we can work together by telephone and online using video calls. I will focus on helping you to work through present difficulties, understand yourself better and to repair patterns that you have been living with that are no longer working or perhaps never made you truly happy. I will be alongside you as you focus on a specific issue or crisis point in your life and to listen as you make sense of how you are feeling, even when the reason may not be clear. I will support you by offering a safe, private and accepting space for you to work through difficult or challenging relationships and life experiences, with a willingness to help and without judgement. Talking things through in confidence with my support as a professional Accredited Counsellor can help you make sense of what is happening and how you are feeling. Exploring your subjective experience and unique perspective lies at the heart of my practice. Within this safe and supportive relationship, the gentle process of change through therapy can take place. Certain counselling styles suit some people differently to others, so I draw from a range of approaches to provide the right support to meet your individual needs. I use Person-centred, CBT, Gestalt, Transpersonal and creative therapies. I am a fully qualified Counsellor with a BA (Hons) Degree in Counselling, FdSc Degree in Counselling (Distinction) and Diploma in Counselling (Distinction). I have extensive additional Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training including Trauma and PTSD-focussed CBT training with the British Psychological Society. I am a qualified Counselling Supervisor.
My first session
Our first session together is an opportunity for us to meet and to make sure this is the right support for you. The therapy process begins in the very first session. I will listen, acknowledge and validate your feelings and experiences and help you to understand what you are going through and what you need. We would explore what you goals for counselling may be, where you would like it to take you and how we can work towards that together. We will talk about how counselling works and what you can expect, including terms and the opportunity to ask any questions that you need to help you feel reassured. My therapy room is a quiet, calm, safe space within a private garden that is here, waiting for you to take some time out just for yourself, to sit, breathe, talk, cry, whatever you need, and feel that, with me alongside you with your difficulties and some hope, you are not alone.
