About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Emma and I offer individual therapy to adults; online and in person. I also offer the option of walking therapy, combining talking therapy with the therapeutic value of spending time outdoors in nature.
I believe in the resourcefulness of the human spirit and in the value of helping people to uncover their own solutions to life’s challenges. I see my role as helping you to understand the situation you find yourself in; through listening and questioning, I will work with you to help you to describe and clarify your unique way of being and how you relate to the world. I aim to support you in considering what matters to you and how you might live your life more the way you want to.
I know from my personal experience of being in therapy that sitting with difficult thoughts and feelings can, at times, feel like hard work. You will need to be willing to face up to the things you find difficult, that you find hard to accept or deny.
Practice description
Therapy offers you a chance to get a better understanding of where you find yourself in life. It is a time each week when you can take stock, collect your thoughts and check in with yourself without any of the usual day-to-day distractions. It is a time to reflect on your assumptions and values, and to get a better sense of what you want for yourself.
I have a Masters in Psychology and a PGDip in Existential Psychotherapy and Counselling. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and I am a doctoral researcher in the third year of my training as a Counselling Psychologist. My research explores how time spent in nature may be experienced as therapeutic, within the context of post-traumatic growth.
In addition to my private practice, I have gained clinical experience in the NHS, and within community counselling services. I have worked with clients experiencing many different issues, including (but not limited to) anxiety, depression, body image, addictions and relationship issues. I also have experience working with both patients and carers within an NHS cancer support service.
Before training as a psychotherapist, I worked in Human Resources at senior level for many years and have experience of helping individuals to understand the complexities that arise in the workplace and how to navigate through these.
My first session
I offer the option of a 30 minute, or 50 minute, introductory session. An introductory session will give you a sense of what it will be like to work with me and for us both to consider how we will work together.
My introductory session fees are £30 for a 30 minute, and £60 for a 50 minute, session.
