About me and my therapy practice

I am a friendly and supportive counsellor, creating a safe space for my clients to explore their issues. We will work collaboratively together to make sure your individual needs are the focus of our sessions with regular opportunities to reflect and review progress.  I trained as a counsellor as a second career, following my own positive experiences of being a client, and recognising the value of being able to go on a journey of discovery in safe hands.

Practice description

I am fully qualified and have many years' experience working with adults of all ages and young people (16+). My training encompassed both CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and Psychodynamic approaches – a unique combination which allows me to offer practical advice and strategies to help you deal with everyday symptoms, as well as time to explore at a deeper level. I have experience of dealing with a wide range of issues, and have a specialist interest in bereavement and loss, having worked with Cruse and more recently at a local hospice.

I am keen to help clients understand how they can learn to manage their current situation, finding strategies and ways of coping that suit them.  Reaching an understanding and acceptance of the origins or development of their issues is also an important part of the process, and my aim is to provide a supportive space within which to explore.

For many people, considering counselling can be an uncertain turning point in their lives and for others it may be an accepted strategy which has helped in the past. Either way, the ‘fit’ between counsellor and client is essential, so it is important to build a mutually trusting relationship.
