About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified counsellor working with young adults through to elderly clients.

I work with my clients to establish why they have come for therapy and what they would like to get out of our time together but not everyone knows what they want from counselling and this is okay too. By allowing my clients the freedom to talk, uninterrupted, about whatever comes to mind, helps them to feel really listened to and understood.

My role in the sessions is to listen and really understand your point of view without judgements. I will help you to better understand how you are feeling and why you may be feeling like this way. I will help you challenge yourself, your thoughts and feelings and overcome patterns of behaviours and ways of being that may no longer be healthy or working for you.

We will work mainly in the present, but we may revisit the past to understand what has bought you to this place, and then we can look to the future to help you get to where you want to be.

Practice description

If you are in the Essex area or can get to Chelmsford, I can offer you face to face sessions and telephone counselling sessions. For all other areas in the UK, I can provide telephone counselling. If you prefer Zoom, this can also be arranged.

I have been working and helping clients with anxiety, stress, relationships, families and catastrophic thinking, grief, feeling overwhelmed or isolated, amongst other things.

I have also been specialising in two specific areas;

  1. Working with clients at all stages on the cancer journey, so if you or a relative or friend have had your life impacted by cancer, or any other serious illness or diagnosis, please do get in touch.
  2. S.E.N.D (Special needs and disabilities) & Carers. Being a parent myself to a child with a physical and learning disability, I understand the help and support parents and carers need and this can be hard to come by. I have specialised in this area to provide a much needed mental health support to parents and carers of special needs children, which include adult children as the caring responsibilities are often life long. I work with the parents to build resilience, focus on their own needs, improve self care and help them find their own identities again, as this is often something I hear "I've lost sight of who I am". There are so many personal feelings, please get in tough for a chat and tell me what you need.
  • I also working with carers, maybe you are caring for a spouse, partner, parent of friend. This can be overwhelming and can become a dual relationship, often with the caring role taking over from the original relationship. Again, I can help you make sense of how you are feeling, understand any conflicted feelings you may be having, build a sense of self and identity, build resilience and overcome stress and anxiety, or whatever you need.

My first session

You can arrange an initial telephone consultation lasting approximately 15 minutes which is free of charge. This is an informal chat and completely no obligation.

During this consultation, you can discuss your needs and what you would like to get from your therapy sessions and understand a little more about how the counselling process works.

If you are unsure about anything, visit my website www.thepyschotherapeuticcounsellor.com for more details, or get in touch and you can tell me what you need.

If you decide to go ahead, we can plan your sessions and I will send you out the necessary paperwork to complete before your next session.
