About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified counsellor working with young adults, adults and elderly clients and couples.

 Individual Counselling I work with my clients to establish why they have come for therapy and what they would like to get out of our time together. Not everyone knows what they want from counselling and this is okay too. By allowing my clients the freedom to talk, uninterrupted, about whatever comes to mind, helps them to feel really listened to and understood. My role in the sessions is to listen and really understand your point of view without judgements. I will help you to better understand how you are feeling and why you may be feeling like this way. I will help you challenge yourself, your thoughts and feelings and overcome patterns of behaviours and ways of being that may no longer be healthy or working for you. We will work mainly in the present, but we may revisit the past to understand what has bought you to this place, and then we can look to the future to help you get to where you want to be.

Couples Counselling/Relationship Counselling  learn to communicate together in a respectful way that helps you to both feel heard and understood. You can learn new ways to resolve conflict within the relationship, set goals for the future and create a real partnership where you both feel valued and appreciated. Understand how your behaviours affect each other, heal old wounds and grow new connections. Maybe there are feelings of betrayal, unfulfillment or a lack of intimacy. You may be a new couple starting out and just want to make a plan to move forward with your new life together. One or both of you may be considering divorce or separation and counselling provides a safe and controlled environment to be able to work through how this can be achieved with the least distress and with mutual agreement.

Practice description

I have been working and helping clients with anxiety, stress, relationships, families and catastrophic thinking, grief, feeling overwhelmed or isolated, amongst other things. Couples counselling .I have also been specialising in specific areas;

S.E.N.D (Special needs and disabilities) including Autistic Adults & Parent Carers. Being a parent carer myself to a child with a physical and learning disabilities I understand the help and support parents and carers need. I have specialised in this area to provide a much needed mental health support to parents and carers of special needs children, which include adult children. I work with the parents on whatever they need at the time. Some common themes that come up are, coming to terms with their child's diagnosis.Building resilience, Feelings of isolation, Focusing on you own needs and Improving self care. Helping parents find their own identities again. Frustration and exhaustion, particularly in trying to secure the appropriate services for their child.

Carers  Maybe you are caring for a spouse, partner, parent or friend. This can be overwhelming and can become a dual relationship, often with the caring role taking over from the original relationship. I can help you make sense of how you are feeling, understand any conflicted feelings you may be having, build a sense of self and identity, build resilience and overcome stress and anxiety, or whatever you need.

Cancer and other illnesses and diagnosis helping people come to terms with their diagnosis, processes what has happened and/or coming to terms with how their life is changing prematurely. I also support the families and carers of people in the same way.

My first session

I am offering you free telephone consultation lasting approximately 15 minutes. This is an informal chat and completely no obligation. During this consultation, you can discuss your needs and what you would like to get from your therapy sessions and understand a little more about how the counselling process works. From here you can decide if you feel I am the right therapist for you, and if so, we can arrange your first session at a time suitable for you.
